How long would it take to pay off international tuition?
I'm thinking about making a career change and going into medical school. International tuition is almost 100K/year, and sets you back $400K (not even including interest yet) I'm trying to understand how possible it is to pay that off. I read online that with overtime, interns / residents can make ~100K. Is it also right that tax is around 25% so maybe youd take home after tax as 75K for for the next 3 years from when you graduate? And then maybe be able to put 20-30K/ year toward the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Applied late to fourth-year IM sub-internships
New MS-4 here. I am hoping for a mid-tier academic IM residency and was told by my residency advisor to try super hard to get a LoR from a medicine department chair at an academic residency. I already have secured 3 letters from IM preceptors at my home site, each from a different sphere of IM (hospitalist, outpatient, specialty). Unfortunately, I applied for 4th year rotations late due to taking step 1 really late in the year, and it was hard to find general medicine sub-I's that fit the... Discussing Code Status
Yearly repost... cos my dad got coded when he shouldn’t have been. 😏 Discussing Code Status Since a whole bunch of interns just started (congrats) I figured I would try to get input from those who have been through intern year already as to their way of approaching a code status discussion Even now as an attending, I am appalled by the lack of training we get in this, the lack of... forums.studentdoctor.net (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Virtual Verification: Asset or Danger?
hi I'm a pharmacist in PA and I wanted to get a message out about virtual verification in retail pharmacies. I want to survey pharmacists, techs, interns on it. If VV gets overwhelmingly negative responses, I want to bring it up to a legislator or to the state board. Please take just a minute or two to fill it out! It's super fast but I need a lot of responses to make a real impact. I only have 290 responses. I need to get into the thousands for the board to take it seriously. If you don't... Self Doubt
Hi Everyone, I know everyone has their moments of self doubts and that is quite normal. But I wanted to know if any of you still feel like a student even as an intern. Like ofcourse doctors are life long learners and all but I mean mentally don’t feel like you are a doctor! I am 8 months into internship and I still feel like I don’t trust my self to do much. It kind of affects the way I interact with my seniors too. As most interns are pretty chill with them and I still act like they are my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Neuropsychology internship questions, competitiveness ..etc.
Hi all, I'm a 3rd year PhD student, a long time lurker, and have gained a fair amount of insight on this board so far on pursuing training in neuropsychology. I was wondering if I could get your opinions on a few questions regarding applying for neuropsychology internships (I am planning on applying next cycle as a 4th year student): 1. I have heard that it is common to take a 5th year to get extra externship hours, and that this increases your competitiveness for matching at a neuro... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Unpaid internships (meaning unpaid practica)
#unpaidinternships is currently trending on social media, so I wanted to start a discussion here if anyone else is so willing. The topic of whether unpaid labor in clinical psych is ethical has entered my mind quite a bit over the past few years, given that, you know, we literally have to track the number of unpaid hours we slave over. The astounding majority of practica across the country are unpaid, no? I am located in the nyc area and as a student, I have accrued >1500+ total... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Misconduct Allegations
I'm considering applying to/working with a professor who recently had allegations of misconduct against him. It looks like they've been dropped, since he's still working in the department, and I'm not necessarily that worried about it. Are there any questions I should ask during the process or things I should try to find out? I'm mostly worried that it could impact my longer term career (more difficult to get internships, post docs, etc) if I'm affiliated with him. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What do NEW interns know?
Hello! I've been asking this question for a year now, and always get very unsatisfactory answers: "oh don't worry about it." "Just relax". Well I've got about 4 months left as an M4 and figured I'd post it here: What should I be able to do on day 1 of intern year? Because if I'm honest, I don't know anything. I can do an H&P...I can come up with a dx and ddx...but after that? My plan is "probably....X?" For example, I don't know on the spot how to treat diabetic foot infections. I have...
