When did you know heme/onc was right for you?
I'm a new intern at a very well regarded IM program and am just considering my options for fellowship moving forward. Currently bouncing around the idea of GI vs heme/onc (I realize they're fairly different). When in your training did you commit to applying heme/onc? Unfortunately, my program does not allot interns much elective time and I'm not scheduled for any heme/onc blocks. I'm worried it will be difficult to commit without any direct exposure. Mainly interested in the onc side... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Applying to clinical psych internships this year, current pending DUI charge (from 2021) versus convicted DUI?
I (25 y/o female) made a dumb mistake and drove home after going out last year (feb2021). I had a few drinks, on an empty stomach after working all day, and ignorantly thought that if i stopped drinking by 10:30ish I would be good to drive by 2. I really had no knowledge of BAC and how long it takes for alcohol to be fully processed. I got pulled over after almost missing my exit and I blew .1 (legal limit .08). My attorney tried to file a motion to dismiss based on no sufficient probable... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do Med schools Offer Internships for Pre meds?
I am an undergrad, and I overheard this one girl in line at Dunkin who says she applied to this program as a medical intern for SUNY Upstate Norton College of Medicine (I am in Binghamton University, and the med school is also in Binghamton). She said she is familiar with a med student there, and they have zoom meetings for something. As vague as that sounds, I hope someone can answer what she does exactly. PLUS, are there any internships med schools offer to pre-meds? If so, can you please... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Developing Efficiency on Nights.
I need help from some veteran internal medicine nocturnists. @tantacles if he’s/she’s still around. We have 10 admissions on 12 hr night shifts and I don’t feel embarrassed to say it’s really tough plus cross coverage from interns who need lots of help now where 2-3 times per night I’ll have to see a sick patient who may need transfer etc. These patients are actually pretty complex if you take the time to do the thorough H&P process and I have noticed that the admitting H&P is really... Intern includes self/patient selfie in H & P physical exam
I don’t know why this is stuck in my head, but interns are starting to do one admit per call shift now. My job is to supervise the H&P/orders process and this person put together a very detailed subjective part with a narrative including the patient’s hobbies, etc. When I went to the patient room, the patient loved that intern and it seems like that intern has gotten that feedback repeatedly which is good. On the other hand, I think some social elements were too detailed/intimate for a note... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Thoughts about equine therapy
I have a great opportunity to provide some of my patients with an opportunity to interact with horses since one of my interns has a farm and horses. I completely believe in therapeutic benefits of said activity, but also have strong feelings about making therapeutic activities into the equivalent or superior to the evidence-based psychotherapy that we provide. I don’t think I should market it as equine therapy, but what about people referring to it as such anyway? should I worry about... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Clinical PhD in a Canada school > CPA programs to APA internships?
I am seeking additional information on this as I have recently started to seek PhD programs in Canada. For example, McGill is a CPA accredited program for their PhD in clinical Psychology. As a US citizen, how hard is it to obtain an APA accredited internship if I seek to complete my 1-year internship in the US? Also, if I decided to complete a CPA internship in Canada, how hard is it to get a postdoctoral fellowship spot in clinical neuropsych (my goal)? Can anyone give me insights on... Staying for postdoc at internship site
I will begin internship soon and realized that postdoc apps will start shortly after. My internship site offers postdoc positions and I have heard many previous interns stay on for this. I'd like to hear your thoughts on pros and cons of staying for postdoc. This site was my top choice and provides all of the training opportunities I was looking for. Assuming I like the site, I am hoping to stay on and avoid going through the whole postdoc application phase. Is there any cons to staying on... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Discussing Code Status
Yearly repost cos this doesn’t get talked about enough in school… Good luck to all the interns… and to the 2nd years who are now suddenly in charge Discussing Code Status Since a whole bunch of interns just started (congrats) I figured I would try to get input from those who have been through intern year already as to their way of approaching a code status discussion Even now as an attending, I am appalled by the lack of training we get in this, the lack of... forums.studentdoctor.net (So...

Gift to Radiologist Intern
Hi, I was wondering what would be a good gift or website to get a gift card from to an (almost) graduated vet student getting ready to start a radiology internship? I’m a current 1st year and I’m unsure what aspiring vet radiologists need during their internships/residency. TIA! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Alternatives to a PhD at a university with a very small MD/PhD program
I recently got into a medical school with a very small MD/PhD program. They take about 1 student a year. I'm still on the alternative list for some MSTPs but will likely matriculate into this school. With that being said, I was wondering what other research opportunities, outside of getting a PhD at this school, could be an option. I know that the NIH does a couple internships. Does anyone have a list of opportunities? I'm mainly interested in cancer and clinical research. Anything helps! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

RCH/ UC Riverside Emergency Medicine Residency Review
Hello, Thank you to all the members from medical student to attending for making this the excellent subforum that it is: a wealth of knowledge and global EM community. I wish to start this conversation in line with the many other program-specific "residency threads" started by interns/residents on this sub. The Riverside Community Hospital / UC Riverside program (RCH/UCR) will be welcoming its first cohort of residents this summer. I'm one of the starting interns. With ERAS 2018...
