What do NEW interns know?
Hello! I've been asking this question for a year now, and always get very unsatisfactory answers: "oh don't worry about it." "Just relax". Well I've got about 4 months left as an M4 and figured I'd post it here: What should I be able to do on day 1 of intern year? Because if I'm honest, I don't know anything. I can do an H&P...I can come up with a dx and ddx...but after that? My plan is "probably....X?" For example, I don't know on the spot how to treat diabetic foot infections. I have... DUI in my 3rd year of clinical psychology doctoral program. Placement, internships, licensing?
Hi everyone, I am in my 3rd year of my doctoral program, and I work with kids and families. I made a dumb mistake and drove home after the bar. I hadn't had a drink since 11:30 and we left at 2:30 AM and I felt fine. I got pulled over after almost missing my exit and I blew .1 (only .02 over our legal limit here). After speaking to lawyers, I think I'm probably going to be charged with an Operating while visually impaired, which in michigan is a "lesser" alcohol related driving charge that... What are my chances of getting into the MSW program at NYU Silver
Hi guys, I am a recent graduate from the class of 2020. I was a double major in psychology and child advocacy and policy. Through out my 4 years in college I volunteered at several places, did a private research with a professor, and two internships. After graduating I volunteer at a crisis text line for a couple of months until I was able to obtain a job as a case manager. 6 months in and I’m ready to continue my educational goals and pursue my masters of social work. My GPA in college was... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Tips for Interns/Residency?
Tips for interns to be better or residency in general? Things you would have done differently or the same? Time spent on work/family? Job search timeline? Finances to be aware of? (gap between graduation/starting residency, budgeting etc) Appreciate any responses (snark welcome). (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Setting Work/Life Boundaries as an ECP
Some of the threads I read in here about productivity and burnout got me thinking...is it really okay for early career psychologists/academics to not volunteer to do everything under the sun or to set boundaries around work/life balance? Or is it viewed negatively and the person isn’t considered a team player? On internship, my supervisors were infamous for nitpicking personality and behaviors of interns and ignoring the positives (they got this feedback every year) and we already worked... Getting married during internship year
Hello all! I am currently in the process of interviewing for APPIC internships starting later this year, and I also have plans (COVID and vaccine schedule willing) to get married late in the Fall. I recognize that this may be a moot point if COVID continues to make it unsafe, but in an ideal world, my fiancé and I would love to take a two-week honeymoon immediately after our wedding. Thus, my question... What have other interns done when getting married over the course of internship? Do... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Building Skills for Summer Research Internships
Hi! I'm currently a freshman at Hopkins studying virtually from home. I've looked into so many summer research programs/internships and am wondering how I can really build my skillset in order to get into a research program like this for one of my summers. So far, I haven't been on campus so I haven't gotten the chance to get involved in Hopkins research, and I am not able to do research near me since I'm about an hour away from the nearest university, nor did I do research during high... Hair vs. urine drug tests?
Hello everyone, apologies in advance as this may be a controversial question. I am wondering if internship sites typically use urine or hair drug screenings? I am a medical marijuana user and am discontinuing my use to prepare for pre-internship screens, but it occurred to me today that I may not pass a hair screening if I had to take one right after match day. I am hoping that most internships use urine screenings but just wanted to see if anyone knows whether that is the case? Thank you in... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

OMFS and Internships
Hey all. I’m wondering approximately what percentage of people who match into a 4 year omfs residency have done an internship year (or multiple). Like most others, I would rather match into a program without spending the additional year doing the internship, but it seems like it is becoming very common and maybe almost expected? If anyone has a good guess on the percent of people that match without interning that would be awesome. Thank you in advance. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

The self deprecating attitude and culture in medicine is awful
All MS3s are by default idiots who don't know how to tie their shoes and interns are useless and nurses protect patients from them. ^^ This is the mentality that circulates in healthcare essentially but it's mostly led by doctors/residents/med students themselves. No other profession has such an intense self deprecating attitude when it comes to knowing how to do your job as medicine. Nursing, dentistry, PT, any other healthcare profession? Not even remotely close. Polar opposite if... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Friend kicked out of PsyD program - Suggestions?
I have a friend who completed their masters degree in clinical psychology, and then went on to a PsyD program, which they were in for 6 years. He had completed thousands of supervised hours, and had multiple internships. He was honestly a wonderful, compassionate, and talented therapist. Right around the time he was about to wrap up his dissertation, his life imploded. He had a lot of personal hardship hit him at once, and he was struggling to stay afloat - even those who help others, need... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

A way to get into dental school.
Hi everyone, I'm currently a high school senior and discovered myself passionate about becoming an orthodontist. There are two routes that I planned for the steps before getting into dental school. Option 1: - get a bachelor in biology (which includes courses that prepared me for the DAT and meet the prerequisite requirements by most dental schools - do shadows/interns at offices - take the DAT Option 2: - take prerequisite requirement courses for dental hygiene (1 year) - get a bachelor... Day to day of IM residents throughout the years?
Hi, trying to get a sense of how the day-to-day changes in IM from intern year to PGY2 and 3? I get that interns spend a lot of time rounding, writing notes, calling families and managing social issues, which isn't very appealing to me, but I want to know if the burden of this eases up as you graduate to higher years? Internships/ Residencies 2021-2022
Hi all, The VIRMP application is open! Not sure if lots of people are considering internships/residencies vs going straight into practice but wanted to start this thread. I know that the program lists in VIRMP can be overwhelming. I am a internship trained ER doctor at a 24/7 Emergency Hospital in Cape Cod Massachusetts. We have had a successful ECC residency program for years and have done a few outside the match internships in the last few years with interns going on to residencies of...
