Anesthesiology Residency - Mayo Jax
Greetings all, I was hoping to get some feedback on what other people who interviewed here or from current and graduated residents thought about this program. I was planning on ranking them very high, but something doesn't sit well with me about the 1st year being run by the IM department with little input from the anesthesiology PD. Other programs seem to really incorporate anesthesia into their intern year and still allows interns to attend anesthesia events/didactics exc... How is the... Internship interview question - is disclosing you are a parent the kiss of death?
I realize that there are many traditional students and admitting you have children has been seen as somewhat taboo for job interviews. This question is for past internship applicants and anyone at training sites who are involved in selecting applicants: For past applicants, did you disclose that you are a parent? If so, did you see any disadvantage in doing so? For those that select interns, are people considered less desirable candidates if they are parents? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Giving honest feedback about a struggling resident
Senior resident here. Have been working this block with a resident who was identified to me as struggling thus far in residency, and unfortunately I have not seen any improvement in their general work-flow, knowledge base, or ward management since that time. It is coming time for us to give feedback to the site leads and committee regarding our interns and I am very conflicted about how to approach this. Of course, the committee is aware of some of the issues, given they provided me with a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Applying to Canadian Internship as an American
It has come to my attention that both US and Canadian sites are listed as available for match on the APPIC directory. Neuropsychology is my area of specialization and there were a number of neuro internships in Canada that really caught my attention, but I wasn't sure as to the true feasibility of going there versus somewhere stateside considering I am only an American citizen. Is there a precedent for American students who don't have Canadian citizenship to successfully apply to, interview... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Counseling Grad Student (and hopefully PhD student) here
Hey you all. I've been looking at this forum for a bit now, mainly learning more information about grad school and the like. Figured I'd drop an introduction and start chatting properly. As the title says, I'm currently getting my M.A. in Mental Health and Rehabilitation Counseling and I'm in my last year doing internships and preparing for the CRC exam. I plan to continue my education into a Counseling Psychology PhD. I'll be transparent, I don't really know too much about grad school, I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Shutdown affect hiring at the VA
Hello! I’ve received a tentative offer from a VA and am waiting on my background check to be completed before I get my official offer (completed physical, DT, credentialing all last week). I know getting clearance can take some time. With all this talk about a possible government shutdown, I’m wondering if it’s possible that my hiring could be put on hold. I seem to recall some fear about the shutdown impacting internships/postdocs several years ago. I know that it didn’t end up being an... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

small animal rotating internship and the match
Hey everyone! I'm in my third year of my DVM degree in the USA. I am planning on doing a small animal rotating internship and afterwards I want to do a residency (probably neuro or IM). As of now I'm looking at academic internships and some of the well established private practices as well. I am really nervous about the match! My GPA is high and I have worked at a referral practice for the past few summers but I am worried that I don't have enough connections in academia to network and... Machine learning research as med student/resident
Hi, I’m currently one year out from college and am working as an applied ML researcher in industry. I’m starting the med school application process now but am having doubts about whether I’ll be able to use my technical background if I continue down the MD route. Although I certainly want to be a clinician, I also have a strong desire to continue doing ML research in academia or industry (preferably industry, most of my jobs/internships so far have been at startups and I’ve really... Radiology Specialty
Hello! I am currently a second year vet student at Midwestern and, although I'm keeping an open mind, I think I want to pursue a radiology specialty. I know that it might be too early to think about this but I wanted to ask for some advice from those in an internship/residency/boarded. I've asked around to a few new interns (but not one specifically radiology-related) and one radiologist, and I've heard that, for internships in general, grades aren't the most important thing and it's better... Constantly close pharmacies because of staffing issue
EVERY.SINGLE.DAY! My scheduler and DL post groupchat to find RPh coverage. There were more than 15 holes this week, and everybody has to take some sorts of extra shifts. They scheduled me last 2 weekends in a row and still texted me today for help. They hired bunch of CHEAP grad interns and waiting them to be licensed, and we are suffering and drowning. They had to close pharmacies multiple times b/c no rph were available. Things that pisses me off the most is the quality of the grad intern... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Step 3 vs Comlex Level 3??
Have to schedule my next step exam in intern year. I am a psych resident and they want us to take it the first year. I am a DO and so have the option to take Comlex level 3. So a few questions. Is comlex 3 still one day or two? Which is easier? I mean they just need a pass, and I think like all interns having some hard time getting motivation for studying. So whatever has the lowest bar to pass I think I’ll take. And how will this effect fellowship opportunities? I haven’t decided if... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Listing Away rotations/Sub-I in ERAS
Would it be appropriate to list my two away/Sub-internships in ERAS? If so, under what category should I list them (volunteer, work, etc.)? I am a DO student and have confirmed that my MSPE or transcript will NOT reflect that I participated in these sub-internships. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pharmageddon - Antibiotic Card Game *In Development*
Not sure if cross posting is allowed, but since I figured this may have some appeal to medicine interns and residents I thought I would post a link. For those so interested, I am developing a card game on antibiotic use. It aims to be more than just flash cards with a scoring mechanism. Additional information including a print and play .pdf of the game, a copy of the rules, and an electronic version of the prototype are available in another SDN thread linked below. Feel free to check it out... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
