Pre-Med, but would doing an optometry internship be ok?
My brother can't find any opportunity to do clinical volunteering this summer due to the Pandemic. Texas State Optical is hiring interns for the summer, would seizing this opportunity count as clinical volunteering? If not, would it still be a good experience considering it is optometry, even though he is pre-med? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What can I do during my first two years to help prepare me for clerkships and STEP 2 now that STEP 1 is P/F?
Now that STEP 1 is P/F, it seems the most important factors to getting into residencies are now: clerkship grades, STEP 2, research, LOR's, and audition internships. So it seems out of these five factors, 4 of them rely on my performance in 3rd and 4th year. I will be attending a T15 so I will search for research opportunities during my first two years. However, my question is: What can I do during my first two years to help prepare me for clerkships and STEP 2 now that STEP 1 is P/F... OMFS Programs that only take/Prefer Non-categorical interns?
Hi guys, so I figured I would start a thread for OMFS programs that are known to prefer Non-categorical interns for their categorical positions. Please add to the list if you have time. -Temple -Miami -Christiana Care (Delaware) (Source: Student Doctor Network)

OMFS non-cat year
I hope everyone is healthy and doing well. I have a question about internships. Do all of them provide about the same amount of dentoalveolar surgery experience? If not, what are the programs that are known for a lot of extraction experience? With a class rank thats right in the middle I am guessing my chances of getting into a residency are slim even with an internship (I have been told by more than a few people that some don't get in even after doing a non-cat year), so I want to make... Internships and COVID-19
Hello everybody! Hope you guys are staying safe. I wanted to hear your experiences during the COVID-19 crisis how your vets are going about interning during this crisis? I have noticed some places are totally ok having people come in while other places I’ve emailed say that they can’t do anything til a particular time (like May or “til things calm down”). I know a few people who don’t have a lot of vet experience hours, or people, like me, who more than likely need to vary their experiences... Internships and COVID-19 (Source: Student Doctor Network)

For internship sites that can ’t fill 2 interns?
Random question out of curiosity- With some (if not most) states requiring at least two equivalent interns at internship sites for licensure, what happens if only one position is filled? Are they disqualified from licensure because only one intern was present due to the vacancy? Or is the whole site discontinued? Now that there are more internship sites than interns, it seems like a good problem may end up being a bad one. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Question for OMFS residents/interns- were you prepared for residency?
As an OMFS hopeful, i often think about how well prepared dental students are to function as a medical residents. Even though our didactics are "theoretically" the same as med school counterparts (we all know most of our curriculum is a bit watered down), we dont have medical rotations. So how can a dental student handle being on medicine and trauma rotations in OMFS residency? Do you have the knowledge/clinical skills necessary to treat medically complex patients? Or is it alot of self... Question for OMFS residents/interns- were you prepared for residency? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Small Animal Rotating Internship Thoughts and Experiences?
Hi all, I hope you are staying safe and healthy! Sorry if there's already a thread on this and I missed it. I am curious about your thoughts and experiences with small animal rotating internships. I'm currently in my first year of vet school and am undecided as to whether I want to specialize after graduation. At this point, I'm just trying to take it all in and learn as much as I can. I'm 98% sure that I want to work with small animals and Neuro and Behavior have piqued my interest... Small Animal Rotating Internship Thoughts and Experiences? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Your Serious and Funny Covid19 Predictions
Mine: 1) Mental health need goes through the roof 2) Internships delay graduating people due to licensing concerns 3) 5% of leadership die, or retire. Younger people rush to fill the vacuum. Bands of roving psychologists form, and have street fights for domination. 4) Many older psychologists stay in practice far past 70 because the stock market is bad. Board complaints go up. 5) Telemedicine remains a significant vector by which psychologists administer care. People argue ad... DPT 2020-2021 application cycle and COVID-19
To anyone reading this, It saddens me that my first post here is in the midst of so much change. I hope everyone is staying safe, healthy, and doing as well as possible during these unprecedented times. As someone who has worked tirelessly the past few years for the best chance of success for applying to DPT schools this summer, this change is terrifying. With eagerly anticipated internships hanging on by a thread, the chances of meeting critical criteria for applying to several DPT... Volunteer hours and gap year
Hi all, Currently, I have not had any volunteer experience since high school (spring of my junior year in college). I'm aware this is less than ideal, but since I transferred colleges and had to make up for credits, sought out research internships, and work as a babysitter on the side, I haven't had the ability to volunteer as I would have liked. I thoroughly enjoy helping people etc. so this isn't just a "check the box" issue for me, but rather I just couldn't find the time given the other... How to head off possible failures in Residency?
Hello, I am one of the lucky students who was matched to a program this year. I wanted some advice from any residency faculty or interns on the forum. I failed a rotation in Medical School third year and am scared of repeating that. One of the ways I combated that moving forward, is I made it a point to sit down with my attending or clerkship director midway and have a sort of midpoint eval. In residency, however, can I do this? or like how can I get feedback from faculty and... How to head off possible failures in Residency? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Internship potentially ending early due to COVID
Hi all, as I've mentioned in other threads, I'm currently on internship at an inpatient psych hospital. The other interns and I had been advocating for some kind of change to service due to danger of contracting COVID and potentially passing it on to patients (particularly given that the hospital has made no efforts to reduce our frequency of patient contact), specifically some kind of remote therapy. We have now heard back from the training director, stating that remote work is not possible... Internship potentially ending early due to COVID (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Unethical practicum site
I have written before asking advice whether to leave a psyd program, which I am most likely going to do. However, it still bothers me that a practicum site I was at was so unethical. The supervisor signs off on clinical hours when students have not seen ANY clients the entire year, conducts what is essentially group therapy with both interns and clients participating, and has asked interns to donate money to the site. The director of training at my school did not seem particularly... Unethical practicum site (Source: Student Doctor Network)
