Organizational Breast Cancer Data Mart: A Solution for Assessing Outcomes of Imaging and Treatment
CONCLUSION: Institutional real-world data marts enable comprehensive understanding of care outcomes within an organization. As clinical data sources become increasingly structured, such marts may be an important source for future interinstitution analysis and potentially an opportunity to create robust real-world results that could be used to support evidence-based national policy and care decisions for breast cancer.PMID:38621193 | DOI:10.1200/CCI.23.00193 (Source: Clinical Breast Cancer)

Social Deprivation Index Affects Time to MRI after knee injury in pediatric patients and is predicted by patient demographics
CONCLUSION: Increased SDI is independently associated with longer time from clinic visit to knee MRI order and longer time from clinic visit to knee MRI completion in our pediatric population. Recognizing potential barriers to orthopedic care can help create the change necessary to provide the best possible care for all individual patients.PMID:38618689 | DOI:10.1080/00913847.2024.2342235 (Source: Health Physics)

Treatment-Free Interval: A Novel Approach to Assessing Real-World Treatment Effectiveness and Economic Impact Among Patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea
CONCLUSIONS: This real-world study suggests that TFI is a meaningful surrogate measure of treatment effectiveness in IBS-D. Patients treated with rifaximin had longer treatment-free periods and lower healthcare costs than patients treated with eluxadoline.PMID:38619720 | DOI:10.1007/s12325-024-02832-x (Source: Adv Data)

Reduction in Diabetes-Related Hospitalizations and Medical Costs After Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitor Initiation in People with Type 2 Diabetes Using Intensive Insulin Therapy
CONCLUSION: Initiation of Dexcom G6 among people with T2D using intensive insulin therapy was associated with a significant reduction in diabetes-related ED and inpatient visits and related HCRU costs. Expanded use of RT-CGM could augment these benefits and result in further cost reductions.PMID:38619722 | DOI:10.1007/s12325-024-02851-8 (Source: Adv Data)

Histology Findings after Two Years of Cytology/HPV Co-Testing in Germany
CONCLUSION: More CIN lesions were found with co-testing, but the increase in histology findings of low-grade or no dysplasia was far greater than findings of CIN3. Lesions not requiring treatment accounted for 94.4% of biopsy results in 2020/21. The use of computer-assisted LBC with progression markers could reduce this.PMID:38618577 | PMC:PMC11006558 | DOI:10.1055/a-2265-3578 (Source: Geburtshilfe und Frauenheilkunde)

Life expectancy, long-term care demand and dynamic financing mechanism simulation: an empirical study of Zhejiang Pilot, China
China has piloted Long-Term Care Insurance (LTCI) to address increasing care demand. However, many cities neglected adjusting LTCI premiums since the pilot, risking the long-term sustainability of LTCI. Theref... (Source: BMC Health Services Research)

Cardiovascular safety of evogliptin dual and triple therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes: a nationwide cohort study
Conclusions These findings suggest that dual or triple therapies of evogliptin for the management of type 2 diabetes in routine clinical practice present no cardiovascular harms, but could alternatively offer cardiovascular benefits in this patient population. (Source: BMJ Open)

(Data-) Cooperatives in health and social care: a scoping review
ConclusionsInformation provided on (data) cooperatives differed greatly in detail. Their common goal is to tackle and overcome existing barriers in their field such as working conditions or unequal health care. We identified five challenges: (1) salary structures; (2) cooperating with other providers and surrounding institutions; (3) building an identity and recruiting potential members; (4) motivation of members to participate actively; and (5) distinction from other types. Benefits are: (1) improvement of conditions; (2) being stronger together; (3) support of research; and (4) data governance. When successful and compet...

Risk of Cardiovascular Events in Schizophrenic Patients Treated with Paliperidone Palmitate Once-Monthly Injection (PP1M): A Population-Based Retrospective Cohort Study in Taiwan
ConclusionThis study reported the population-based incidence of cardiovascular events in schizophrenic patients initiating PP1M treatment. PP1M was not associated with increased risks of serious cardiovascular events but was potentially associated with lower risks of cardiovascular hospitalizations compared with oral SGAs. When Insurance Is Not a Barrier: Psychological Factors Predicting Whether Bariatric Candidates Undergo Surgery
Despite the effectiveness of bariatric surgery, utilization rates have increased only marginally over the last two decades; candidates who are eligible for bariatric surgery regularly fail to undergo surgery. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF) has previously been used to assist in identification of those who will not move forward with surgery after being identified as eligible. However, medical insurance has been identified as a significant barrier to surgery; research in those who have universal healthcare may yield different results.
