Reducing radicality in fertility-sparing surgery is associated with improved in vitro fertilization outcome in early-stage cervical cancer: A national retrospective study
CONCLUSION: This is the largest study to evaluate IVF outcomes in young cervical cancer survivors who have undergone FSS. The findings suggest that less radical procedures are associated with significantly better IVF outcomes. These results emphasize the importance of considering oncological safety and reproductive outcomes together when choosing FSS for early-stage cervical cancer patients. It also highlights the reproductive benefits of performing less radical surgery.PMID:38569327 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2024.03.024 (Source: Gynecologic Oncology)

The Impact of the Linear No-threshold Hypothesis on Litigation
Health Phys. 2024 Apr 3. doi: 10.1097/HP.0000000000001799. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs the basis of radiation safety practice and regulations worldwide, the linear no-threshold (LNT) hypothesis exerts enormous influence throughout society. This includes our judicial system, where frivolous lawsuits are filed alleging radiation-induced health effects caused by negligent companies who subject unwitting victims to enormous financial and physical harm. Typically, despite the lack of any supporting scientific basis, these cases result in enormous costs to organizations, insurance companies, and consumers.PMID:38568160 | DO...

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and < em > Helicobacter pylori < /em > Eradication in a Clinical Population
CONCLUSIONS: H. pylori eradication rates do not differ by T2DM status, providing support for clinical trials of H. pylori eradication to reduce GC incidence among high-risk populations in the United States, such as individuals with T2DM.PMID:38569609 | DOI:10.14423/SMJ.0000000000001672 (Source: Southern Medical Journal)

Cost of Treatment for Brain Metastases Using Data From a National Health Insurance
CONCLUSIONS: Whole-brain radiation therapy was the least costly radiation technique. Similar per-treatment prices for Gamma Knife and linear accelerator SRS support their use in treating BMs. Stereotactic radiation therapy in general was costlier on a per-use basis than SRS, prompting further scrutiny on its frequent use. Hippocampal avoidance intensity modulated radiation therapy was the costliest radiation therapy on a per-use basis by a moderate amount, prompting further discussion about its comparative cost effectiveness against other radiation modalities. This study underscores the importance of multiple consideration...
