Higher educational attainment associated with higher confidence in influenza vaccination in Norway
CONCLUSIONS: We observed an increase in confidence in influenza vaccination over the seasons examined in the study. However, the increase has not been equal in all groups and there is a clear educational gradient in influenza vaccine confidence. These findings indicate that despite efforts to increase influenza coverage over several years, the implemented measures have failed to reach all parts of the population.PMID:38519343 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2024.03.049 (Source: Vaccine)

An Aloe-Based Composition Constituting Polysaccharides and Polyphenols Protected Mice against D-Galactose-Induced Immunosenescence
J Immunol Res. 2024 Mar 14;2024:9307906. doi: 10.1155/2024/9307906. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTA decline in immune response, exhibited in the form of immunosenescence and inflammaging, is an age-associated disturbance of the immune system known to predispose the elderly to a greater susceptibility to infection and poor vaccine response. Polysaccharides and polyphenols from botanicals are known for their immune modulation effects. Here we evaluated a standardized mushroom-based composition, UP360, from Aloe barbadensis, Poria cocos, and Rosmarinus officinalis, as a natural nutritional supplement for a balanced immune response...

Prevalence and disparities in influenza vaccination among patients with COPD: A French nationwide population study
Despite concordant international recommendations, many surveys found disappointing rates of influenza vaccination in at-risk populations, ranging from 23% in overall COPD population to more than 70% in more severe COPD subjects. Therefore, we assessed the proportion of French COPD patients non-vaccinated for influenza and their clinical and socio-demographic factors. (Source: Respiratory Medicine)

Cross-sectional study of influenza trends and costs in Malaysia between 2016 and 2018
ConclusionsThe study provides valuable insights into the dynamic landscape of influenza in Malaysia. The findings reveal a consistent year-round presence of influenza with irregular seasonal peaks, including a notable influenza A epidemic in 2017 and consistent surges in influenza B incidence during March across three years. These findings underscore the significance of continuous monitoring influenza subtypes for informed healthcare strategies as well as advocate for the integration of influenza vaccination into Malaysia ’s national immunization program, enhancing overall pandemic preparedness. Genomic characterization of equine influenza A subtype H3N8 viruses by long read sequencing and functional analyses of the PB1-F2 virulence factor of A/equine/Paris/1/2018
This study assesses the potential of long-read nanopore sequencing for fast and precise sequencing of circulating equine influenza viruses. Therefore, two French Florida Clade 1 strains, including the one circulating in winter 2018 –2019 exhibiting more pronounced pathogenicity than usual, as well as the two currently OIE-recommended vaccine strains, were sequenced. Our results demonstrated the reliability of this sequencing method in generating accurate sequences. Sequence analysis of HA revealed a subtle antigenic drift in the French EIV strains, with specific substitutions, such as T163I in A/equine/Paris/1/2018 and t...

The Australian Health Care Homes trial: quality of care and patient outcomes. A propensity score-matched cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: The HCH program was associated with greater access to care and improved processes of care for people with chronic diseases, but not changes in diabetes-related outcomes, most measures of hospital use, or risk of death.PMID:38514449 | DOI:10.5694/mja2.52266 (Source: Med J Aust)

Changes in Attitudes and Barriers to Seasonal Influenza Vaccination from 2007 to 2023
This study investigated how factors and barriers to flu vaccination among college students has changed over the past 16 years. Data were collected from 440 students using a survey and compared to previous data from the same university. Respondents were also asked about their experiences with Covid-19 and its effect on their intent to vaccinate. We found that vaccination rates had increased from 12.4 to 30.5%. Among the unvaccinated, expense, fear of getting influenza from vaccination, fear of side effects, and lack of information have decreased by 28%, 20%, 17%, and 15% respectively. Time, convenience, and perceived risk a...
