A prospective and randomized study comparing the use of alarms, desmopressin and imipramine in the treatment of monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis
Monosymptomatic enuresis (MNE) results from a pathogenic triad that may include lack of vasopressin secretion during sleep, reduced functional bladder capacity and inability to wake up during sleep. The treatment of MNE can be performed through behavioral therapy, use of alarms or medications such as desmopressin and imipramine. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Urology)

Molecules, Vol. 27, Pages 9055: Potential Antioxidant Activity of Apigenin in the Obviating Stress-Mediated Depressive Symptoms of Experimental Mice
This study aimed to examine the antidepressant properties of apigenin in an experimental mouse model of chronic mild stress (CMS). Three weeks following CMS, albino mice of either sex were tested for their antidepressant effects using the tail suspension test (TST) and the sucrose preference test. The percentage preference for sucrose solution and the amount of time spent immobile in the TST were calculated. The brain malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, catalase activity, and reduced glutathione levels were checked to determine the antioxidant potential of treatments. When compared to the control, animals treated with apigenin d...

Molecules, Vol. 27, Pages 7828: In Vivo Antidepressant-Like Effect Assessment of Two Aloysia Species in Mice and LCMS Chemical Characterization of Ethanol Extract
. Kennedy Medicinal plants belonging to the Verbenaceae family demonstrated antidepressant effects in preclinical studies. Depression is one of the largest contributors to the global health burden of all countries. Plants from the Aloysia genus are traditionally used for affective disorders, and some of them have proven anxiolytic and antidepressant activity. The aim of this work was to evaluate the antidepressant effect of the ethanolic extract of Aloysia gratissima var. gratissima (Agg) and Aloysia virgata var. platyphylla (Avp) in mice. A tail suspension test (TST) and forced swimming test (FST) were conducted after...

Imipramine prevents Porphyromonas gingivalis lipopolysaccharide-induced microglial neurotoxicity
In this study, we examined whether P. gingivalis-induced brain inflammation could be ameliorated by pharmacotherapy, using in vivo and in vitro studies. In an animal experiment, peripheral administration of LPS-PG induced inflammation in the hippocampus via microglial activation, which was inhibited by pre-treatment with the antidepressant imipramine. Similarly, LPS-PG-induced inflammation in MG-6 cells, a mouse microglial cell line, was inhibited by pre-treatment with imipramine, which caused imipramine-induced inhibition of NF-κB signaling. Culture media obtained from LPS-PG-treated MG-6 cells induced neuronal cell deat...

Cyclooxygenase-2 inhibition affects the expression of down syndrom cell adhesion molecule via interaction with metabotropic glutamate receptor 5
J Physiol Pharmacol. 2022 Apr;73(2). doi: 10.26402/jpp.2022.2.15. Epub 2022 Sep 29.ABSTRACTSince we previously discovered that simultaneous inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2; a highly inducible enzyme, crucial for the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin G2, which plays a predominant role in the CNS) by NS398 and metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5) through the use of its antagonist [3-((2-methyl-4-thiazolyl)ethyl)pyridine; MTEP] alters mouse behavior (e.g., affects spatial learning, and induces/intensifies the antidepressant effect), our aim was to discover the mechanism responsible for these changes....
