Managing Hepatotoxicity Caused by Anti-tuberculosis Drugs: A Comparative Study of Approaches
CONCLUSION: Drug-induced hepatotoxicity is a common occurrence that often results in treatment discontinuation. Understanding the prevalence of this complication and identifying appropriate methods of rechallenge treatment is crucial to reducing complications and mortality rates.PMID:38685836 | DOI:10.34172/aim.2024.19 (Source: Archives of Iranian Medicine)

Optimal Treatment Based on Interferon No Longer Makes Clinical Cure of Chronic Hepatitis B Far Away: An Evidence-Based Review on Emerging Clinical Data
Clin Pharmacol Ther. 2024 Apr 30. doi: 10.1002/cpt.3287. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic hepatitis B (CHB) remains a major global public health problem. The functional cure is the ideal therapeutic target recommended by the latest guidelines, and pursuing a functional cure has become the key treatment end point of current therapy and for upcoming clinical trials. In this review, based on the latest published clinical research evidence, we analyzed the concept and connotation of clinical cures and elaborated on the benefits of clinical cures in detail. Secondly, we have summarized various potential treatment methods f...

Evaluation of the Efficacy and Safety of Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate in Intercepting Mother-to-Child Transmission of Hepatitis B Virus
This study assessed the effects of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) in pregnant women for mother-to-infant transmission of HBV. A total of 122 pregnant women at our hospital met the inclusion criteria for high HBV DNA viral loads. They were randomly divided into TDF-treatment (n=70) and placebo (n=52) groups. Maternal liver function and serum HBV DNA load were tested before and after treatment. Clinical and laboratory data of infants were assayed at delivery and 7-months post-partum visit and compared between the two groups. There was no difference in clinical characteristics of participants between the two groups. Ther...

Effect of dolutegravir on ferritin, iron, and C-reactive protein among people living with HIV and co-infections
Conclusion: The presence of co-infections in PLWH is associated with higher VL and with chronic inflammation. Ferritin and CRP decreased on dolutegravir-based ART but remained higher in people with co-infections despite similar rates of virologic suppression. Viruses, Vol. 16, Pages 716: Cell Culture Models for Hepatitis B and D Viruses Infection: Old Challenges, New Developments and Future Strategies
r Chronic Hepatitis B and D Virus (HBV and HDV) co-infection is responsible for the most severe form of viral Hepatitis, the Hepatitis Delta. Despite an efficient vaccine against HBV, the HBV/HDV infection remains a global health burden. Notably, no efficient curative treatment exists against any of these viruses. While physiologically distinct, HBV and HDV life cycles are closely linked. HDV is a deficient virus that relies on HBV to fulfil is viral cycle. As a result, the cellular response to HDV also influences HBV replication. In vitro studying of HBV and HDV infection and co-infection rely on various cell culture ...

Viruses, Vol. 16, Pages 713: Immune-Escape Mutations Are Prevalent among Patients with a Coexistence of HBsAg and Anti-HBs in a Tertiary Liver Center in the United States
In this study at a tertiary liver center in the United States, we evaluated the frequency and virological characteristics of the HBsAg mutations among CHB patients with the presence of both HBsAg and anti-HBs. In this cohort, 45 (2.1%) of 2178 patients were identified to have a coexistence of HBsAg and anti-HBs, and 24 had available sera for the genome analysis of the Pre-S1, Pre-S2, and S regions. The frequency of mutations in the S gene was significantly higher among those older than 50 years (mean 8.5 vs. 5.4 mutations per subject, p = 0.03). Twelve patients (50%) had mutations in the ‘α&...

A Closer Look at the Innovative PAGED-B Score
I wish to express my thoughts regarding the recent publication titled “PAGE-B incorporating moderate HBV DNA levels predicts risk of HCC among patients entering into HBeAg-positive chronic hepatitis B” 1. Chun et al. developed a new hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) risk prediction score (PAGED-B score) in non-cirrhotic treatment-naïve adult patients who started ant iviral therapy upon entering into hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-positive chronic hepatitis B from chronic infection which was found to have a high accuracy of predicting the 5-year risk of HCC. Hepatitis B virus reactivation in hepatocellular carcinoma patients after hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy combined with and without immunotherapy
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation (HBVr) is a major concern for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients undergoing hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) using mFOLFOX6 regimen. There is insufficient... (Source: Infectious Agents and Cancer)

Current status of liver transplantation for human immunodeficiency virus-infected patients in mainland China
This study provides an overview of the current landscape of HIV-positive patients receiving liver transplantation (LT) in mainland China. To date, our transplant center has conducted LT for eight end-stage liver disease patients co-infected with HIV, and all but one, who died two months postoperatively due to sepsis and progressive multi-organ failure, have survived. Comparative analysis with hepatitis B virus-infected patients during the same period revealed no statistically significant differences in acute rejection reactions, cytomegalovirus infection, bacteremia, pulmonary infections, acute kidney injury, new-onset can...

Diagnostic precision of Truenat ® technique and co-relation of ALT levels with HBV-DNA viral load among HBsAg positive patients at a tertiary care hospital in Eastern Uttar Pradesh
CONCLUSION: Truenat®-PCR technique is a highly sensitive and can be performed with low resources for effective control of HBV infection. Evaluation of HBV-DNA levels and serum ALT levels showed a significant proportion of patient harbored ongoing viral replication and disease progression.PMID:38682056 | PMC:PMC11055448 | DOI:10.18502/ijm.v16i1.14882 (Source: Iranian Journal of Microbiology)
