Case report: The role of hypertension retinopathy graduation in the management of systemic cardiovascular disease
J Family Med Prim Care. 2024 Feb;13(2):787-791. doi: 10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_1772_22. Epub 2024 Mar 6.ABSTRACTModerate to severe hypertensive retinopathies are more likely to correlate with uncontrolled blood pressure in all ages. Mild microvascular changes are expected with natural aging and are therefore more concerning in patients younger than 40. Risk assessment is subsequently determined based on blood pressure measurements and patient symptoms. The goal of this paper is to discuss current opinions regarding the role of grading hypertensive retinopathy in the risk assessment of systemic cardiovascular disease in the conte...

Comparison of the efficacy of propranolol versus amitriptyline as monotherapy for prophylaxis of migraine
CONCLUSION: The average number of migraine attacks reduced in the amitriptyline and propranolol groups as the treatment duration increased. Amitriptyline is a popular medication with established effectiveness and manageable levels of negative side effects. It is the tricyclic antidepressant that is most frequently used to prevent headaches. When administered for migraine prevention, it generates a quick response within 3 months. Propranolol is less effective than amitriptyline at reducing the frequency, length, and severity of episodes.PMID:38605779 | PMC:PMC11006045 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_927_23 (Source: Primary Care)

Photophobia is associated with lower sleep quality in individuals with migraine: results from the American Registry for Migraine Research (ARMR)
ConclusionResults suggest that photophobia is a significant predictor of poor sleep quality and sleep disturbances in migraine. These results underscore the necessity for comprehensive and systematic investigations into the intricate interplay between photophobia and sleep to enhance our understanding and develop tailored solutions for individuals with migraine. Association of Interleukins 17A and 17F Gene Polymorphism with Asthma: A Case Control Study in North Indian Population
This study involved 150 cases with asthmatics and 150 healthy controls. Asthmatic pat ients were confirmed by Spirometry and other clinical parameters. The genotype frequencies observed for all genes in controls were in Hardy Weinberg Equilibrium (HWE). The results suggested that the asthmatics of the same height and age had lower weight and higher smoking rate in comparison to contr ols. The asthmatics displayed cough, breathlessness, congestion, disturbed sleep, headache, and wheezing. These parameters were found to be significantly elevated in asthmatics. Excepting Hb, levels of blood eosinophils, AEC, TLC and serum IgE...

Feasibility and Usability of Augmented Reality Technology in the Orthopaedic Operating Room
AbstractPurpose of ReviewAugmented reality (AR)  has gained popularity in various sectors, including gaming, entertainment, and healthcare. The desire for improved surgical navigation within orthopaedic surgery has led to the evaluation of the feasibility and usability of AR in the operating room (OR). However, the safe and effective use of AR  technology in the OR necessitates a proper understanding of its capabilities and limitations. This review aims to describe the fundamental elements of AR, highlight limitations for use within the field of orthopaedic surgery, and discuss potential areas for development.Recent Fi...

Music and Movement Therapy Improves Quality of Life and Attention and Associated Electroencephalogram Changes in Patients with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most common neurobehavioral disorder. Treatments for ADHD include pharmacological and nonpharmacological therapy. However, pharmacological treatments have side effects such as poor appetite, sleep disturbance, and headache. Moreover, nonpharmacological treatments are not effective in ameliorating core symptoms and are time-consuming. Hence, developing an alternative and effective treatment without (or with fewer) side effects is crucial. Music therapy has long been used to treat numerous neurological diseases. Spinal Cord Stimulation Waveforms for the Treatment of Chronic Pain
AbstractPurpose of ReviewSince the advent of spinal cord stimulation (SCS), advances in technology have allowed for improvement and treatment of various conditions, especially chronic pain. Additionally, as the system has developed, the ability to provide different stimulation waveforms for patients to treat different conditions has improved. The purpose and objective of the paper is to discuss basics of waveforms and present the most up-to-date literature and research studies on the different types of waveforms that currently exist. During our literature search, we came across over sixty articles that discuss the various ...

Cannabinoids for Acute Pain Management: Approaches and Rationale
AbstractPurpose of the ReviewAcute pain management remains a challenge and postoperative pain is  often undermanaged despite many available treatment options, also including cannabinoids.Recent FindingsIn the light of the opioid epidemic, there has been growing interest in alternative care bundles for pain management, including cannabinoids as potential treatment to decrease opioid prescribing. Despite the lack of solid evidence on the efficacy of cannabinoids, their use among patients with pain, including those using opioids, is currently increasing. This use is supported by data suggesting that cannabinoids could poten...

Efficacy of various exercise interventions for migraine treatment: A systematic review and network meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Very low-quality evidence showed that yoga, high- and moderate-intensity aerobic exercises were the best interventions for reducing migraine frequency and intensity; high- and moderate-intensity aerobic exercises were best for decreasing migraine duration; and moderate-intensity aerobic exercise was best for diminishing disability.PMID:38597252 | DOI:10.1111/head.14696 (Source: Headache)
