Increased CX3CL1 in cerebrospinal fluid and ictal serum t-tau elevations in migraine: results from a cross-sectional exploratory case-control study
DiscussionCX3CL1 in CSF is a novel potential fluid biomarker of migraine that is unrelated to the headache status. Serum t-Tau is linked to the headache phase but not interictal migraine. These data need to be confirmed in a larger hypothesis-driven prospective study. (Source: The Journal of Headache and Pain)

Neuropsychiatric Effects Associated with Opioid-Based Management for Palliative Care Patients
AbstractPurpose of ReviewThe abundance of opioids administered in the palliative care setting that was once considered a standard of care is at present necessitating that providers evaluate patients for unintentional and deleterious symptomology related to aberrant opioid use and addiction. Polypharmacy with opioids is dynamic in affecting patients neurologically, and increased amounts of prescriptions have had inimical effects, not only for the individual, but also for their families and healthcare providers. The purpose of this review is to widen the perspective of opioid consequences and bring awareness to the numerous ...

Unveiling the therapeutic potential of Dl-3-n-butylphthalide in NTG-induced migraine mouse: activating the Nrf2 pathway to alleviate oxidative stress and neuroinflammation
ConclusionsOur data suggest that NBP may alleviate migraine by activating the Nrf2 pathway to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in migraine mouse models, confirming that it may be a potential drug for the treatment of migraine.Graphical Abstract (Source: The Journal of Headache and Pain)

In a bold bid to avoid open-access fees, Gates foundation says grantees must post preprints
The world’s largest philanthropy, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, last week took a radical step aimed at giving preprints—freely available draft manuscripts that have not been peer reviewed—a much more prominent role in science. Starting in 2025, the foundation will require grantees to post as preprints all manuscripts that result from research it funds. It will also stop paying for researchers to publish their papers in journals that charge a fee to make papers free. The Gates foundation says the preprint mandate is needed to accelerate the dissemination of research findings and because too many autho...

Developments in targeting calcitonin gene-related peptide
Expert Rev Neurother. 2024 May;24(5):477-485. doi: 10.1080/14737175.2024.2332754. Epub 2024 Apr 1.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide (CGRP)-targeted therapy has revolutionized migraine treatment since its first approval in 2018. CGRP-targeted therapy includes monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and gepants, which modulate trigeminal nociceptive and inflammatory responses, alleviating pain sensitization involved in migraine pathogenesis. CGRP-targeted therapy is effective not only for migraine but also for other chronic headache disorders that share the CGRP pathway.AREAS COVERED: The authors review the latest d...

Transient Fever Response After ECT in a Patient with Catatonic Schizophrenia: A Case Report
Turk Psikiyatri Derg. 2024 Spring;35(1):78-82. doi: 10.5080/u26972.ABSTRACTElectroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is an effective and safe treatment method for many psychiatric disorders. In general medical practice, ECT may cause side effects as most other treatment methods do. Headache, myalgia, nausea, vomiting, confusion, anterograde amnesia are common side effects of electroconvulsive therapy. Fever; in addition to general medical conditions such as infection, malignancy, connective tissue diseases, drug treatments, malignant hyperthermia, convulsions, it can also occur due to conditions such as neuroleptic malignant syndrom...
