Myofascial Release for the Treatment of Tension-Type, Cervicogenic Headache or Migraine: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: The meta-analysis results indicate that MFR intervention can significantly alleviate pain and disability in TTH and CGH. For migraine, however, the results were inconsistent, and there was only moderate quality evidence of disability improvement for TTH and CGH. In contrast, the quality of other evidence was low or very low.PMID:38585645 | PMC:PMC10999287 | DOI:10.1155/2024/2042069 (Source: Pain Research and Management)

Self-reported Side Effects of SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination
Acta Medica (Hradec Kralove). 2023;66(4):154-157. doi: 10.14712/18059694.2024.10.ABSTRACTSARS-CoV-2 vaccines are often promoted as safe. However, real world data tell a different story. The aim of this study is to investigate the type and frequency of adverse reactions to SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in a randomly selected cohort of unrelated individuals. Adverse reactions to the first/second dose of a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine were recorded using an online reporting system called "Pabbly". Patients were asked via social media to report any symptoms temporarily associated with vaccination. One hundred subjects were enrolled. The mean a...

Virtual Reality in Acute and Chronic Pain Medicine: An Updated Review
AbstractPurpose of ReviewThis review critically analyzes the recent literature on virtual reality ’s (VR) use in acute and chronic pain management, offering insights into its efficacy, applications, and limitations.Recent FindingsRecent studies, including meta-analyses and randomized controlled trials, have demonstrated VR ’s effectiveness in reducing pain intensity in various acute pain scenarios, such as procedural/acute pain and in chronic pain conditions. The role of factors such as immersion and presence in enhancing VR’s efficacy has been emphasized. Further benefits have been identified in the use of VR for as...

Alterations of the alpha rhythm in visual snow syndrome: a case-control study
ConclusionsOur main finding was a decreased power spectral density in the alpha band over parietal and temporal brain regions corresponding to areas of the secondary visual cortex. These findings complement previous functional and structural imaging data at a electrophysiological level. They underscore the involvement of higher-order visual brain areas, and potentially reflect a disturbance in inhibitory top-down modulation. The alpha rhythm alterations might represent a novel target for specific neuromodulation.Trial registrationwe preregistered the study before preprocessing and data analysis on the platform osf.org (DOI...

SARS-CoV-2 causes dysfunction in human iPSC-derived brain  microvascular endothelial cells potentially by modulating the Wnt signaling pathway
ConclusionThese findings suggest that SARS-CoV-2 infection causes BBB dysfunction via Wnt signaling. Thus, iPSC-BMELCs are a useful in vitro model for elucidating COVID-19 neuropathology and drug development. (Source: Fluids and Barriers of the CNS)

Menopausal symptom management: Fezolinetant's varied doses provide effective relief for vasomotor symptoms in women - A meta-analysis of 3291 participants
Afr J Reprod Health. 2024 Mar 31;28(3):99-113. doi: 10.29063/ajrh2024/v28i3.11.ABSTRACTMenopause represents the physiological transition when a woman's reproductive period ends associated with a variety of symptoms, including vasomotor symptoms, such as night sweats and hot flashes. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of oral Fezolinetant for treating vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause. Five electronic databases were searched from their inception until May 2023. Via the Cochrane risk of bias tool, two reviewers assessed the studies' quality. The primary outcomes w...
