RHAMM/hyaluronan inhibit β-catenin degradation, enhance downstream signaling, and facilitate fibrosarcoma cell growth
Mol Biol Rep. 2023 Sep 14. doi: 10.1007/s11033-023-08763-0. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIncreased hyaluronan deposition (HA) in various cancer tissues, including sarcomas, correlates with disease progression. The receptor for hyaluronic acid-mediated motility (RHAMM) expression is elevated in most human cancers. β-catenin is a critical downstream mediator of the Wnt signaling pathways, facilitating carcinogenic events characterized by deregulated cell proliferation. We previously showed that low molecular weight (LMW) HA/RHAMM/β-catenin signaling axis increases HT1080 fibrosarcoma cell growth. Here, focusing on mechani...

Inhibition of nonsense-mediated mRNA decay reduces the tumorigenicity of human fibrosarcoma cells
NAR Cancer. 2023 Sep 6;5(3):zcad048. doi: 10.1093/narcan/zcad048. eCollection 2023 Sep.ABSTRACTNonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) is a eukaryotic RNA decay pathway with roles in cellular stress responses, differentiation, and viral defense. It functions in both quality control and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. NMD has also emerged as a modulator of cancer progression, although available evidence supports both a tumor suppressor and a pro-tumorigenic role, depending on the model. To further investigate the role of NMD in cancer, we knocked out the NMD factor SMG7 in the HT1080 human fibrosarcoma cell l...

GSE232333 Inhibition of nonsense-mediated mRNA decay reduces the tumorigenicity of human fibrosarcoma cells
Contributors : Sofia Nasif ; Martino Colombo ; Anne-Christine Uldry ; Markus S Schr öder ; Simone de Brot ; Oliver MühlemannSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Homo sapiensNonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) is a eukaryotic RNA degradation pathway that targets for degradation faulty mRNAs with premature termination codons as well as many physiological mRNAs encoding full-length proteins. Consequently, NMD functions in both, quality control and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression, and it has been implicated in the modulation of cancer progression. To investigate th...

Molar ‐incisor‐malformation in a paediatric cancer patient: Case report
ConclusionsMedical interventions during hospitalization for cancer treatment, other than chemo/radiotherapy, may cause MIM by adversely affecting the function of Hertwig's epithelial root sheath. Regular dental screening in paediatric cancer patients may reveal more MIM cases and help in elucidating its pathogenesis. (Source: Oral Surgery)

Cross-species evaluation of fibroblast activation protein alpha as potential imaging target for soft tissue sarcoma: a comparative immunohistochemical study in humans, dogs, and cats
ConclusionThis study represents the first cross-species target evaluation of FAP for STS. Our results demonstrate that FAP expression is increased in various STS subtypes compared to non-cancerous tissues across species, thereby validating dogs and cats as suitable animal models. Based on a TASC score, FAP could be considered a target for FGS. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

Sclerosing Epithelioid Fibrosarcoma
Sclerosing epithelioid fibrosarcoma (SEF) is a distinctive sarcoma that may arise in nearly any soft tissue site or bone. While there has been past controversy as to whether it is related to low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma (LGFMS), it has been shown to behave far more aggressively than LGFMS. SEF has a propensity to metastasize to the lungs and bone and arise within the abdominal cavity. Histologically, it is characterized by uniform nuclei embedded in a densely collagenous stroma simulating osteoid. By immunohistochemistry, it is often strongly positive for MUC4. The majority (75%) have EWSR1 gene rearrangement, most common...
