Dealing with fibromyalgia in the family context: a qualitative description study
Conclusions: Relatives' better understanding of the disease, greater acceptance of new family roles, and improvement of patients' work conditions are all interventions that may help reduce the negative impact of FM in the family context.PMID:38445639 | DOI:10.1080/02813432.2024.2322103 (Source: Primary Care)

The crosstalk between subjective fibromyalgia, mental health symptoms and the use of over-the-counter analgesics in female Syrian refugees: a cross-sectional web-based study
AbstractSuboptimal fibromyalgia management with over-the-counter analgesics leads to deteriorated outcomes for pain and mental health symptoms especially in low-income countries hosting refugees. To examine the association between the over-the-counter analgesics and the severity of fibromyalgia, depression, anxiety and PTSD symptoms in a cohort of Syrian refugees. This is a cross-sectional study. Fibromyalgia was assessed using the patient self-report survey for the assessment of fibromyalgia. Depression was measured using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, insomnia severity was measured using the insomnia severity index ...

Continuum of somatosensory profiles in breast cancer survivors with and without pain, compared to healthy controls and patients with fibromyalgia
ConclusionBCS with persistent pain exert aberrations in peripheral processing of nociceptive signals, heightened facilitation of nociceptive signals, and higher psychosocial burden when compared to pain-free BCS, healthy controls, and patients with fibromyalgia.SignificanceThis study investigates the somatosensory function of breast cancer survivors with and without persistent pain using quantitative sensory testing and two control group (i.e., patients with fibromyalgia and healthy controls). Our results indicate somatosensory aberrations within the peripheral, but not central pathways in breast cancer survivors with pers...

Psychopathological symptoms in fibromyalgia and their associations with resistance to pharmacotherapy with SNRI
CONCLUSIONS: Modifiable psychopathological symptoms vary in FM T[+] vs. FM T[-] and are predictors of resistance to SNRI. Psychological assessment should be integrated into standard care for FM patients.PMID:38421347 | DOI:10.12740/PP/OnlineFirst/176000 (Source: Psychiatria Polska)

Attentional deficits in fibromyalgia: an ERP study with the oddball dual task and emotional stroop task
BMC Psychol. 2024 Feb 29;12(1):104. doi: 10.1186/s40359-024-01601-3.ABSTRACTThe present study investigated the neural correlates of attentional deficits in fibromyalgia through an Oddball Dual Task and an Emotional Stroop Task, both performed during EEG recordings. Thirty female participants were recruited, being divided into two groups: a group of patients with fibromyalgia (FM, n = 15, Mage = 51.87, SDage = 7.12) and a healthy control group (HC, n = 15, Mage = 46.13, SDage = 8.41). In the Emotional Stroop Task, the behavioural results showed that patients with FM had less hits and longer times reactions than healthy cont...

Electroencephalographic profile of Salvia amarissima Ortega and amarisolide A in the absence and presence of PTZ-induced seizures in mice
In conclusion, our preclinical data support that S. amarissima possesses anticonvulsant properties, in part due to the presence of amarisolide A, mediated by different inhibitory mechanisms of action. Our scientific evidence suggests that this Salvia species and amarisolide A are potential neuroprotective alternatives to control seizures in epilepsy therapy.PMID:38417289 | DOI:10.1016/j.biopha.2024.116352 (Source: Biomedicine and pharmacotherapy = Biomedecine and pharmacotherapie)
