Fibromyalgia: one year in review 2024
This article summarises the main advances in FM during the last year. Even in 2023, research on FM was notably active. From a clinimetric perspective, studies have been conducted to evaluate the possibilities of interchanging the primary indices of disease severity, primarily for studies with substantial case numbers. Regarding FM pathogenesis, ongoing research focuses on small fiber neuropathy: some studies have documented its association with central sensitisation, while others have revealed distinct sensory profiles in patients with FM and small fiber neuropathy compared to those solely with small fiber neuropathy. Dors...

Effects of home-based exercise on the health of patients with fibromyalgia syndrome: a systematic review of randomized clinical trials
CONCLUSION: It is necessary to expand the evidence on home-based exercises for fibromyalgia, as this is the first systematic review on the subject. Subsequent research should focus on methodological rigor and protocol detail, allowing findings to be replicated.PMID:38588585 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2024.2337105 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

In-Person or Virtual Educational Preferences in Patients With Fibromyalgia: A Cross-Sectional Survey Study at an Academic Medical Center
Fibromyalgia (FM) is a centralized pain sensitivity disorder, characterized by widespread migratory pain, fatigue, cognitive complaints, and various other symptoms (Clauw, 2014; Harte et al., 2018; Mohabbat& Wilkinson, 2023). The prevalence of FM ranges between 2% and 8% of the population, which has ultimately led to an estimated annual $10 billion in total healthcare related costs (Black et al., 2020; Clayton, 2015; Clauw, 2014; Harte et al., 2018; Knight et al., 2013; Macfarlane et al., 2017; Mohabbat& Wilkinson, 2023). Treatment of fibromyalgia among patients with mastalgia and fibromyalgia improved mastalgia
CONCLUSION: In the presence of unexplained mastalgia, fibromyalgia should be kept in mind. Duloxetine treatment improved the breast pain and quality of life in patients with mastalgia and fibromyalgia.PMID:38558398 | DOI:10.14744/agri.2022.58219 (Source: Agri Dergisi)

Exploring levels of TSH and FT4 in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), fibromyalgia (FM) and healthy controls did not reveal any associations between fatigue score and level of thyroid hormones
CONCLUSION: As one might clinically and physiologically expect an association between thyroid function and fatigue, which may be associated with clinical disorders such as CFS and FM, we suggest future studies to examine the field further by exploring the influence of thyroid receptors and responses of the thyroid hormone cascade.PMID:38557370 | DOI:10.1080/08039488.2024.2332442 (Source: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry)
