Valproate attenuates somatic hyperalgesia induced by orofacial inflammation combined with stress through inhibiting spinal IL-6 and STAT1 phosphorylation
Brain Res Bull. 2024 Jan 28;208:110889. doi: 10.1016/j.brainresbull.2024.110889. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTemporomandibular disorder (TMD) and fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) may present as comorbid conditions, but treatment options are ineffective. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether valproate (VPA) attenuates somatic hyperalgesia induced by orofacial inflammation combined with stress, which represents a model of pain associated with TMD and FMS comorbidity, and to explore the potential mechanisms. The results showed that VPA inhibited somatic hyperalgesia induced by orofacial inflammation combined with ...

Implication of intestinal microbiota in the etiopathogenesis of fibromyalgia: A systematic review
AbstractFibromyalgia (FM) is a highly prevalent chronic disease. About 4.7% of the world's population suffers from generalized pain and hypersensitivity, in addition to a wide range of physical and psychological symptoms. The etiopathogenesis of this disease is multifactorial, which makes its diagnosis and treatment challenging. Recently, the increase in the number of studies on microbiota has provided new data that can help to understand the onset and development of FM. An updated systematic review of the causes of FM has been carried out in this work. Particularly in the last decade, research has focused on the gut –br...

Phenotypic characteristics of patients with chronic widespread pain and fibromyalgia: a cross-sectional cluster analysis
CONCLUSION: We identified one cluster, where participants were characterized by a potentially favourable clinical profile. More studies are needed to evaluate whether these characteristics could be used to guide the management of patients with CWP and FM.PMID:38275145 | DOI:10.1080/03009742.2023.2297514 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Rheumatology)

Reduced Cortico ‐Cortical Resting‐State Connectivity in Sensory Systems Related to Bodily Pain in Juvenile Fibromyalgia
ConclusionReduced cortico-cortical sensory integration involving PCL/S1 and spanning the sensory systems may underly critical pain sensory features in youth with JFM. Reduced sensory integration is paralleled by augmented cross-talk between sensory and affective/salience-processing regions, potentially indicating a shift toward more affectively colored sensory experiences to the detriment of specific sensory discrimination. Genetic Influence on Osteoarthritis Versus Other Rheumatic Diseases
ConclusionOA has relatively large heritability as compared with other RMDs. The coexistence of OA and shoulder pain, as well as back pain, was common and could often be explained by genetic factors. Findings imply similar etiologies of OA and several pain conditions. (Source: Arthritis and Rheumatology)

Risk of fibromyalgia following antibiotic prescriptions: A  population‐based case–control study
ConclusionsThe results lend support for prior antibiotics being an important risk factor for a diagnosis of FM.SignificanceThis study shows an association between the volume as well as timing of prior antibiotic prescriptions and of a subsequent diagnosis of fibromyalgia in primary care.
