Clinical and histological features of patients with primary Sj ögren's syndrome and autoimmune thyroiditis: a national multicentre cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: This is the largest study evaluating the coexistence of pSS and AT. We confirm a high association between pSS and AT and describe the presence of a different phenotype characterized by a higher rate of celiac disease and fibromyalgia. Although not significant, the lower prevalence of both lymphoma and intake of DMARDs, along with a significantly lower focus score and number of foci, possibly suggest a more favourable outcome in concomitant pSS and AT which further deserve future investigations.PMID:38149510 | DOI:10.55563/clinexprheumatol/eh36vs (Source: Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology)

Influence of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) on pressure pain thresholds and conditioned pain modulation in a randomized controlled trial in women with fibromyalgia
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) effectively reduces pain in fibromyalgia (FM). The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of TENS use on pressure pain thresholds (PPT) and conditioned pain modulation (CPM) in individuals with FM using data from the Fibromyalgia Activity Study with TENS (FAST) trial (NCT01888640). Individuals with FM were randomly assigned to receive active TENS, placebo TENS, or no TENS for four weeks. A total of 238 females satisfied the per-protocol analysis among the active TENS (n=76), placebo TENS (n=68), and no TENS (n=94) groups. (Source: The Journal of Pain)

Reduced Cortico ‐Cortical Resting‐State Connectivity in Sensory Systems Related to Bodily Pain in Juvenile Fibromyalgia
ConclusionReduced cortico-cortical sensory integration involving PCL/S1 and spanning the sensory systems may underly critical pain sensory features in youth with JFM. Reduced sensory integration is paralleled by augmented cross-talk between sensory and affective/salience-processing regions, potentially indicating a shift toward more affectively colored sensory experiences to the detriment of specific sensory discrimination. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor in fibromyalgia: A systematic review and meta-analysis of its role as a potential biomarker
ConclusionOur meta-analysis demonstrated that FM is correlated with increased peripheral BDNF levels. This biomarker ’s diagnostic and prognostic value should be further investigated in future studies. (Source: PLoS One)

Effectiveness of an online multicomponent program (FATIGUEWALK) for chronic fatigue syndrome: A randomized controlled trial.
Conclusions: This is the first study to assess the short-term effectiveness of an online multicomponent intervention added to TAU, compared to TAU alone, for the management of CFS/ME. Further trials, including active control groups with an equivalent treatment dose, and assessing the long-term effectiveness of the online FaW, are warranted. Orofacial Pain and Risk of Dysphagia in Women With Fibromyalgia: A Cross-Sectional Observational Study
CONCLUSIONS: In this sample of women with FMS, we identified a high rate of dysphagia risk. Also, a high percentage of these women presented alterations in QoL associated with swallowing. Patients at risk for dysphagia had significantly higher orofacial VAS and CF-PDI-total scores, supporting the relationship between dysphagia risk and COP in FMS. Further research to establish the need for appropriate assessment referrals in clinical practice to determine whether dysphagia is present in this population is needed.PMID:38118459 | DOI:10.1044/2023_AJSLP-23-00193 (Source: American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology)

Preference for Hedonic Goals in Fibromyalgia; Is It Always an Avoidance Mechanism? Looking the Relationship with Pain Acceptance from a Positive Psychology Perspective
The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of openness to experience on pain acceptance through positive affect (PA) considering the moderating role of preference for mood management goals in women with fibromyalgia (FM). A cross-sectional study (n  = 231) was carried out. A simple mediation model and a moderate mediation model were conducted by SPSS macro-PROCESS. Results showed that PA mediated positively the effect of openness to experience on acceptance (B = 0.46, SE = 0.80, t = 5,59; 95% CI = [0.3016, 0.6298], p (Source: Pain Management Nursing)

A two ‐component model of hair cortisol concentration in fibromyalgia: Independent effects of pain chronicity and severity
ConclusionsThese results support the existence of a dysfunction in the regulation of the HPA axis in FM and its possible contribution to chronic pain development.SignificanceThis is the first study to assess hair cortisol concentrations in a specific sample of patients with fibromyalgia (FM). This method is especially useful for the assessment of long-term regular cortisol excretion. Results showed a two-component model for explaining cortisol levels: disease chronicity, with a negative effect, and symptom severity, with a positive effect. This suggests that severe pain/stress evokes higher cortisol levels at earlier stage...
