Impact of caregiving on mental, self-rated, and physical health: evidence from the China health and retirement longitudinal study
This study longitudinally analyzed the association of caregiving (and different caregiver types) with mental, physical, and self-rated health. Urban –rural, gender, and employment heterogeneity were further investigated.MethodBased on three-wave data (2011, 2013, and 2018) from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, we used growth curve models to assess the impact of informal caregiving (providing care to family members) and caregiver types (caregivers to grandchildren, parents, spouses, or multiple family members) on three health outcomes (depressive symptoms, self-rated health, and activities of daily livi...

Incidence of SARS-CoV-2 Seropositivity in Pediatric Healthcare Workers Prior to Widespread Vaccination: A Five-month Longitudinal Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: Incidence of seropositivity was 8.2%. Although seropositivity was higher among ED staff during early stages of the pandemic, this difference declined over time, likely due to universal adoption of personal protective equipment (PPE).PMID:38641316 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijid.2024.107064 (Source: Pain Physician)

Employment and retirement among workers who develop vision loss in midlife
CONCLUSIONS: The decreasing likelihood of leaving the labor market after vision loss is an encouraging finding of this study. Workers who left the labor force after vision loss were more likely to be in precarious financial positions, and retirees did not have positive experiences with retirement. Assisting workers with vision loss to remain in the labor force is of vital importance, and increasing awareness and usage of free services for this population may reduce involuntary retirement and its negative consequences.PMID:38640188 | DOI:10.3233/WOR-230669 (Source: Work)

Breaking barriers in electrochemical biosensing using bioinspired peptide and phage probes
Anal Bioanal Chem. 2024 Apr 19. doi: 10.1007/s00216-024-05294-w. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTElectrochemical biosensing continues to advance tirelessly, overcoming barriers that have kept it from leaving research laboratories for many years. Among them, its compromised performance in complex biological matrices due to fouling or receptor stability issues, the limitations in determining toxic and small analytes, and its use, conditioned to the commercial availability of commercial receptors and the exploration of natural molecular interactions, deserved to be highlighted. To address these challenges, in addition to the in...

Post-Pandemic Changes to Employment and Employment Satisfaction in Early Career and Career Advancing Athletic Trainers
CONCLUSIONS: The pandemic brought changes to employers and employment settings for many YPATs. To reduce turnover and attrition, administrators must begin to prioritize employee well-being and satisfaction. In addition to increasing salary and reducing workload, employers should recognize the importance of administrative support in promoting well-being together with satisfaction and professional optimism in early professional and career-advancing athletic trainers.PMID:38632841 | DOI:10.4085/1062-6050-0508.23 (Source: J Athl Train)

High Financial Hardship among Patients with Advanced Ovarian Cancer
This study evaluated financial toxicity in patients with advanced ovarian cancer. Using secondary data from a study of barriers to palliative care, financial toxicity (FT) was measured through the Comprehensive Score for Financial Toxicity scale. Univariate and bivariate analyses were used to assess the relationship between selected demographic (i.e., age, race, ethnicity, education, place of birth, insurance type, yearly household income, employment status) and treatment-specific variables (i.e., years since diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hormonal and targeted therapy) with clinically relevant financial toxi...
