Why did peri-pandemic suicide death rates decrease among non-Hispanic white people while increasing among most people of color?
CONCLUSIONS: We argue that these disparities are due to the myriad effects of discrimination and systemic racism, encapsulated broadly by the minority stress theory, and provide suggestions for relief and research.PMID:38676429 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13088 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)

Cardiovascular Risk Associated With Social Determinants of Health at Individual and Area Levels
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In this cohort study, both individual- and area-level SDOH were associated with ASCVD risk; adding both individual- and area-level SDOH to the PCEs modestly improved discrimination and calibration for estimating ASCVD risk for Black individuals, and adding individual-level SDOH to PREVENT plus SDI also modestly improved calibration. These findings suggest that both individual- and area-level SDOH may be considered in future development of ASCVD risk assessment tools, particularly among Black individuals.PMID:38669015 | DOI:10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2024.8584 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

'Too young to sit at home': a qualitative study conducted among employees with young-onset dementia and their relatives
CONCLUSION: The findings highlight a strong desire to work post-YOD diagnosis, serving as a foundation for developing workplace support tools and guidance. This has the potential to help individuals with YOD preserve their self-confidence and identity while working within their capabilities.PMID:38669151 | DOI:10.1080/13607863.2024.2345132 (Source: Aging and Mental Health)

The effect of sex, age, work experience, education, shift, and ward on nursing autonomy perceptions
CONCLUSIONS: The results highlighted the intricate world both of the healthcare surrounding and the abilities to act autonomously within the multiprofessional staff. Persistent negative symptoms in young people at clinical high risk of psychosis treated with an Italian early intervention program: a longitudinal study
This study aims to (a) determine the prevalence of PNS in a sample of young people at CHR-P; (b) investigate any association of PNS with functioning and clinical features; (c) examine longitudinal course of PNS across 2 years of follow-up and changes in PNS severity levels with specialized treatments. One Hundred Eighty CHR-P participants were recruited and were divided into CHR-P/PNS + and CHR-P/PNS- subgroups. The clinical assessments were based on the PANSS and the GAF and were conducted at baseline and every 12 months during the follow-up. Twenty four participants showed PNS at entry. Of them, 21 concluded the 2-year f...
