Conclusion A definitive conclusion cannot be drawn. Single-level AECD seems to have results equivalent to ACDF, presenting even some benefits. Technical limitations combined with required surgical skills and experience should be considered. We recommend cautious employment in anticipation of future updates.PMID:38650569 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.44424-23.2 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Suicide and suicidality in Australian Defence Force veterans: A systematic scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: Gaps were identified in relation to the relative contributions to risk from transition, the various psychosocial correlates (for example, relationships, finances, employment), pre-service factors and the extent to which these are causal or mediating in nature. A better understanding of health service utilisation would also aid in targeting preventive efforts. Future research in these areas is warranted.PMID:38650320 | DOI:10.1177/00048674241246443 (Source: The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry)

Trends in severe functional limitations among working and non-working adults in Germany: Towards an (un)-healthy working life?
We examined trends in severe functional limitations among working and non-working adults in Germany (ages 40 –65). Four population-based samples of 11,615 participants were used, spanning the time periods 2002–2021. The overall prevalence of severe limitations was found to be 12.8% in the sample, but also varied from 10 to 20% according to occupational group. Over time, severe limitations were found to have increased, from 10.6% in 2002 to 13.2% in 2021. Logistic regression analysis showed that severe limitations increased significantly in certain subgroups, including working women with a low skilled white collar occup...

Updated Analysis of Radon Exposure and Lung Cancer Mortality in the Cohort of Newfoundland Fluorspar Miners (1950-2016)
Radiat Res. 2024 Apr 23. doi: 10.1667/RADE-23-00114.1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe commercial mining of fluorspar in St. Lawrence Newfoundland began in 1933. Miners who worked underground were exposed to high levels of radon progeny, especially before ventilation was introduced into the mines in 1960. The mean cumulative radon exposure for underground miners in this cohort was 380.9 working level months (WLM). A series of studies of this cohort have characterized the increased risks of lung cancer mortality due to radon. We have extended the follow-up of this cohort an additional 15 years to provide additional insigh...

Associations between service use and behavioral health trajectories among young adults experiencing homelessness
CONCLUSIONS: Young adults in most need of behavioral services are likely to receive services for mental health, but not SUD. Use of mental health services may reduce depression symptoms over time, but continuing care may be needed to prevent symptom returns. More work is needed to connect young adults with SUD treatment and improve effectiveness of these services.PMID:38644956 | PMC:PMC11031190 | DOI:10.1016/j.childyouth.2023.107354 (Source: Children and Youth Services Review)

Challenges of Incivility in Dental Practice and Education
J Dent Hyg. 2024 Apr;98(2):47-50.ABSTRACTProfessional collaboration is a key component of patient care and a source of fulfilment for oral health care providers. However, reports of incivility in employment as well as education are increasing impacting individuals in all settings including patients. Uncivil behavior implies a disregard for others and creates an atmosphere of disrespect, conflict, and stress. In contrast, civility towards others implies polite, respectful behavior towards others. This short report presents case studies in dental hygiene clinical practice and in dental hygiene education with strategies for a...
