Resuscitation Update - What's New?
Anasthesiol Intensivmed Notfallmed Schmerzther. 2024 Apr;59(4):214-225. doi: 10.1055/a-2082-8685. Epub 2024 Apr 29.ABSTRACTPerfect, uninterrupted basic life support (BLS) is the key for successful cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Time plays an important role in the treatment of OHCA. This applies both to the time until the start of BLS and the reduction of all pauses during resuscitation, especially chest compressions. In 2022, the rate of bystander-CPR showed an absolute increase of 4% compared to previous years. The bystander-CPR rate is currently above 50%. Compared to OHCA i...

Emergency Physician Performed Ultrasound-Guided Abdominal Paracentesis: A Retrospective Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Emergency physicians with training in real-time needle guidance with ultrasound were able to use POCUS to perform ultrasound-guided paracentesis in the emergency department with a high success rate and no fatal complications. Based on our experience, we recommend performing ultrasound-guided paracentesis using a linear transducer, with attention to identifying vessels near the procedure site and maintaining sterile technique.PMID:38681156 | PMC:PMC11044928 | DOI:10.24908/pocus.v9i1.16668 (Source: Pain Physician)

Drivers of natural disaster risk ‐reduction actions and their temporal dynamics: Insights from surveys during an imminent hurricane threat and its aftermath
This study offers such insights using innovative real-time (N = 871) and repeated (N = 255) surveys of a sample of coastal residents in Florida regarding flood preparations and their drivers during an imminent threat posed by Hurricane Dorian and its aftermath. Compared with commonly employed cross-sectional surveys, our methodology better represents relationships between preparedness actions undertaken during the disaster threat and their drivers derived from an extended version of Protection Motivation Theory (PMT). The repeated survey allows for examining temporal dynamics in these drivers. Our results confirm the impor...
