Did any docs take the QBI deduction on their taxes?
And I'm referring to taking the QBI for being a doctor, not for other businesses they might have. This applies to 1099 docs, and those with an S-Corp or an LLC for just being an ER doctor. I qualified for it in the past several years, it was a nice tax break. But this year I didn't, and I'm not sure why. My wife and I have W2 and 1099 income (my wife is not a doctor and she gets a W2, and I get a W2 and 1099 from the hospitals I work at), and my 1099 business after expenses was about... Should I Quit?
So this is going to be another "Should I leave EM?" post. No eye-rolls please. Worked community ER for > 10 years. Early 40s, and finally hit my FI number. Experienced firsthand all the usual reasons for wanting to quit. Sued twice, which led to a period of depression and suicidal thoughts. Thankfully, both cases were dismissed after years of litigation, but still fear the next possible lawsuit I've worked at a lot of different hospitals in multiple cities and have never... Zucker (Hofstra) Vs Einstein; Free at Both
Hi everyone, I'm currently trying to decide between Hofstra and Einstein and would really appreciate your feedback. 1.For a little bit of context, Tuition is covered at both schools via scholarships, so costs would be relatively the same. 2.I currently live on Long Island and will not be moving from my current residence. 3. I'm currently interested in Emergency Medicine/ General Surgery, but obviously, these interests might change in school. 4. Hofstra's additional financial aid to cover... KYCOM vs LMU-DCOM
Looking to likely pursue emergency medicine to match in the NJ/NYC area. LMU is easier to get back home from, but have heard some negative things about the school. Also like that it's closer to a big city, and I have family nearby. KYCOM is very isolated, harder to get home from, and I noticed the match primarily in the southeast. However, I have not heard any negative things about academics there. Really having trouble deciding. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Obligation to Police
Just curious if anyone knows the legalities of sharing information with the police or situations they have ran into where police request to know the health information of a patient. We have a great relationship with our local PD. They patrol the hospital often and are pleasant, never have had an issue, not that this is something that changes the legal way to go about the situation. We had a patient brought in that had full rigor, cold skin, blown pupils. EMS arrived to scene due to the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Strongly Considering Going Back to Fellowship for Sports Medicine
Looking for some insight. I'm about 8 months out of a pretty solid academic EM program. I did well in residency, tried to see as many patients as I could and do as many procedures as I could in the limited 3 years I had there. I took a job back in my home town in a small community ED. I am busier than I ever was in residency, with actually much sicker patients. At my Level 1 academic center, EM consisted of taking a number of transfers and making a lot of consultants. Here in the community... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Read anything good lately?? Book recommendations
Hi all, Awhile ago someone recommended the book One Second After by William Forstchen. It’s a very compelling novel about the aftermath of an electromagnetic pulse attack on the US and I would not have come across the book any other way. Thanks to whoever that was. I wonder if anyone has any book recommendations ? I feel like as highly educated people with generally short attention spans, we might enjoy some of the same writing styles, which are probably a little different from the...
