Impact of Ramadan fasting on vision and headache-related quality of life in women with idiopathic intracranial hypertension: A prospective observational study
CONCLUSION: Ramadan fasting had an aggravating effect on headache, visual symptoms, and related quality-of-life activities, which might be attributed to weight gain during this month. Whether proper nutritional management to prevent weight gain during Ramadan may help mitigate this worsening effect is a mission of future studies.PMID:38525797 | DOI:10.1111/head.14707 (Source: Headache)

Demographic and Clinical Profile of Pediatric Uveitis in Delta Region, Egypt
CONCLUSION: Anterior uveitis was the most frequent presentation in our pediatric cohort. Despite the challenges, the majority of children with uveitis exhibited no significant visual impairment, with most causes of visual loss being reversible.PMID:38527189 | DOI:10.1080/09273948.2024.2328789 (Source: Ocular Immunology and Inflammation)

Immunochemistry-based quantification of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and immunoscore as prognostic biomarkers in bladder cancer
CONCLUSION: TILs and immunoscore might be effective prognostic tools in BC. However, standardized quantification methods and further investigation on larger samples are highly recommended to definitively attest the prognostic value of TILs and IS in BC.PMID:38523233 | DOI:10.1186/s43046-024-00212-8 (Source: J Egypt Natl Canc In...)

Characteristics of sudanese camel-hair fibres under subtropical desert condition
AbstractThe study assessed the quality and variability of camel hair fibres in arid regions of Egypt. Raw camel-hair samples were collected from fifteen Sudanese camels divided into seven males (414.60  ± 38.19 kg, BW) and eight females (401.67 ± 26.76 kg BW), and the study investigated the influences of animal sex on both the physical and chemical traits of camel-hair fibers. The relationships among physical properties and both mineral and amino acid content were studied. Camel’s se x had no significant effect on any of the studied traits including fibre diameter (FD), prickle factor (PF), medullated fibre (...

Thrombin activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor plasma levels and TAFI Thr325Ile genetic polymorphism in a cohort of Egyptian sickle cell disease patients and impact on disease severity
CONCLUSION: The analysis of Thr325Ile polymorphisms combined with plasma TAFI levels suggests that the analyzed SNP could influence plasma TAFL levels and SCD disease severity and hospitalization rates, which could be predictors for complex disease.PMID:38520679 | DOI:10.1002/pbc.30959 (Source: Cancer Control)

Role of Colchicine in Cardiovascular Disease Management
Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol. 2024 Mar 21. doi: 10.1161/ATVBAHA.124.319851. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTColchicine-an anti-inflammatory alkaloid-has assumed an important role in the management of cardiovascular inflammation ≈3500 years after its first medicinal use in ancient Egypt. Primarily used in extremely high doses for the treatment of acute gout flares during the 20th century, research in the early 21st century demonstrated that low-dose colchicine effectively treats acute gout attacks, lowers the risk of recurrent pericarditis, and can even add to secondary prevention of major adverse cardiovascular events. As...
