Molecular perspectives on systemic priming and concomitant immunity in colorectal carcinoma
J Egypt Natl Canc Inst. 2024 Mar 11;36(1):7. doi: 10.1186/s43046-024-00211-9.ABSTRACTThe progression of metastasis, a complex systemic disease, is facilitated by interactions between tumor cells and their isolated microenvironments. Over the past few decades, researchers have investigated the metastatic spread of cancer extensively, identifying multiple stages in the process, such as intravasation, extravasation, tumor latency, and the development of micrometastasis and macrometastasis. The premetastatic niche is established in target organs by the accumulation of aberrant immune cells and extracellular matrix proteins. Th...

Characteristics and clinical outcomes of patients with kidney failure of unknown aetiology from ANZDATA registry
This study included 60,448 people on dialysis and 20,859 transplant recipients. 1-year, 3-year and 5-year mortality rates in people with uESKD on dialysis were 31.6%, 58.7% and 77.2%, respectively. 1-year, 3-year and 5-year mortality rates in transplant recipients with uESKD were 2.8%, 13.8% and 24.0%, respectively. People with uESKD on dialysis had a higher mortality risk compared to those without uESKD on univariable and multivariable analyses (adjusted hazard ratio [AHR] 1.10, 95% CI 1.06 –1.16, p (Source: PLoS One)

Histological, immunohistochemical and serological investigations of the ovary during follicular phase of estrous cycle in Saidi sheep
CONCLUSION: This work helps to understanding the reproduction in Saidi sheep which assist in improving the reproductive outcome of this breed of sheep. These findings are increasingly important for implementation of a genetic improvement program and utilizing the advanced reproductive techniques as estrous synchronization, artificial insemination and embryo transfer.PMID:38461282 | DOI:10.1186/s12917-024-03933-z (Source: Cell Research)

Influence of the industrial pollutant on water quality, radioactivity levels, and biological communities in Ismailia Canal, Nile River, Egypt
This study aimed to assess the potential pressure of industrial and municipal activities on water quality, radioactivity levels, and biological diversity, focusing on the consequences of radionuclides on periphytic diatom communities. Furthermore, the environmental impact of pollutants will be evaluated to monitor the ecological condition of the Ismailia Canal. Chemical analyses employed various instruments and methods to identify and quantify matter, with radionuclide elements measured by gamma spectrometry and diatoms counted and identified by inverted microscopy. Our results revealed that the canal was classified as exc...

Highly efficient degradation of basic dyes using gold-coated nature-based supermagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles as eco-friendly nanocatalysts
In this study, we synthesized supermagnetic iron oxide (Fe3O4 NPs) and gold-iron oxide bimetallic nanoparticles (Au@Fe3O4 BNPs) using an eco-friendly method that involved natural compounds extracted from brown Egyptian propolis. We employed UV-visible spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, VSM, SEM, HRTEM, EDX, Zeta potential and XPS techniques to examine the optical characteristics, chemical structure, crystalline structure, magnetic properties, morphology, size, and chemical composition of these biosynthesized nanoparticles. Furthermore, these nanoparticles were used as nanocatalysts for the removal of cationic dyes. The photocatalyti...

New insights into the clinical and molecular spectrum of the MADD-related neurodevelopmental disorder
AbstractBiallelic pathogenic variants inMADD lead to a very rare neurodevelopmental disorder which is phenotypically pleiotropic grossly ranging from severe neonatal hypotonia, failure to thrive, multiple organ dysfunction, and early lethality to a similar but milder phenotype with better survival. Here, we report 5 patients from 3 unrelated Egyptian families in whom 4 patients showed the severe end of the spectrum displaying neonatal respiratory distress, hypotonia and chronic diarrhea while one patient presented with the mild form displaying moderate intellectual disability and myopathy. In addition, we observed distal a...
