Safety and tolerability of intravenous immunoglobulin in patients with active dermatomyositis: results from the randomised, placebo-controlled ProDERM study
Dermatomyositis is an idiopathic inflammatory myopathy characterised by rashes and progressive muscle weakness. The recent ProDERM (Progress in DERMatomyositis) study is the first large randomised, placebo-con... (Source: Arthritis Research and Therapy)

Hypouricemia as a novel predictor of mortality in anti-MDA5 positive dermatomyositis patients with ILD: A retrospective cohort study
Anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 antibody positive dermatomyositis (MDA5+ DM) is a unique subtype of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) that is associated with rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease (RPILD) and high mortality. This retrospective study aimed to identify predictors of mortality and discover novel easily detectable indicators. (Source: Respiratory Medicine)

Case report: Checkpoint inhibitor pneumonitis with positive anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 antibodies in a patient with lung cancer
We present the case of a 74-year-old man with lung adenocarcinoma who developed RP-ILD after treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors. Further investigation revealed multiple autoantibodies, including anti-MDA5 antibodies. He initially responded to systemic glucocorticoids, immunosuppressants, and tocilizumab but eventually died from worsening pneumomediastinum. This case is the first one to suggest that checkpoint inhibitor pneumonitis can present as RP-ILD with positive anti-MDA5 antibodies, which may be predictive of a poor prognosis. Clinical features of macrophage activation syndrome in adult dermatomyositis:  A single‐center retrospective case‐control study
ConclusionMAS was a common and fatal complication of dermatomyositis in our cohort. MAS is closely related to RP-ILD in patients with dermatomyositis. When RP-ILD is present in dermatomyositis patients with abnormal laboratory findings, such as cytopenia and hyperferritinemia, the presence of MAS should be considered. Global trends in research of melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5: a bibliometric analysis from 2002 to 2022
ConclusionThis study comprehensively demonstrated the research frontiers of MDA5 and will provide a useful resource for scholars to conduct future decisions.Key PointsWe conducted the first in-depth survey of the research frontiers on melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 (MDA5) over the past two decades via bibliometric analysis. We found that many early breakthroughs have been made in the mechanism of MDA5-mediated antiviral immune responses, and the role of MDA5 in autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases has raised the recent concern. We identified that the virus infection-associated pathogenesis and effective thera...

Clinicopathological Reclassification of Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathy to Match the Serological Results of Myositis-Specific Antibodies
CONCLUSIONS: This new clinicopathological classification for IIM in combination with serological test results could be applied to our previous case series. Adoption of the new criteria will lead to a better understanding of the disease and hence new therapeutic insights.PMID:38179634 | DOI:10.3988/jcn.2022.0432 (Source: Journal of Clinical Neurology)
