Revisiting a (001)-oriented layered lead chloride templated by 1,2,4-triazolium: structural phase transitions, lattice dynamics and broadband photoluminescence
Dalton Trans., 2024, Advance Article DOI: 10.1039/D4DT00406J, PaperMiros ław Mączka, Szymon Sobczak, Maciej Ptak, Szymon Smółka, Katarzyna Fedoruk, Filip Dybała, Artur P. Herman, Waldeci Paraguassu, Jan K. Zaręba, Robert Kudrawiec, Adam Sieradzki, Andrzej Katrusiak Layered 1,2,4-triazolium lead chloride undergoes three phase transitions. It also exhibits narrow and broad emissions, which exhibit different temperature dependence. We correlated this behaviour with the change of the octahedral distortion. Mucoadhesive phenylboronic acid-grafted carboxymethyl cellulose hydrogels containing glutathione for treatment of corneal epithelial cells exposed to benzalkonium chloride
Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2024 Mar 29;238:113884. doi: 10.1016/j.colsurfb.2024.113884. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBenzalkonium chloride (BAK) is the most commonly-used preservative in topical ophthalmic medications that may cause ocular surface inflammation associated with oxidative stress and dry eye syndrome. Glutathione (GSH) is an antioxidant in human tears and able to decrease the proinflammatory cytokine release from cells and reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation. Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), a hydrophilic polymer, is one of most commonly used artificial tears and can promote the corneal epithelial cell ...

A comprehensive characterization of indoor ambient microplastics in households during the COVID-19 pandemic
This study investigated the composition of indoor airborne MPs by active sampling in seven houses in the city center of northwestern Turkey (Eski şehir) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The visual identification showed the presence of different colored MPs, white, red, orange, green, and yellow, with different shapes (fibers, fragments, films, lines, foam, and pellets). The size of the identified MPs was between 2.5 and 327.36 μm. The polymer ic composition analysis showed the presence of 123 MPs in all the samples with 22 different polymeric compositions. Residents in these houses are exposed to airborne MPs, with inhalat...

Cymbopogon proximus and Petroselinum crispum seed ethanolic extract/Gum Arabic nanogel emulsion: Preventing ethylene glycol and ammonium chloride-induced urolithiasis in rats
This study aimed to assess the anti-urolithic effects ofCymbopogon proximus (Halfa Bar) andPetroselinum crispum (parsley) seed ethanolic extract /Gum Arabic (GA) emulsion, and its nanogel form against ethylene glycol (EG) and ammonium chloride (AC)-induced experimental urolithiasis in rats. Rats were divided into four groups: group 1 served as the normal control, group 2 received EG with AC in drinking water for 14 days to induce urolithiasis, groups 3 and 4 were orally administered emulsion (600  mg/kg/day) and nanogel emulsion (600 mg/kg/day) for 7 days, followed by co-administration with EG and AC in drinking water fo...

STUB1 exacerbates calcium oxalate-induced kidney injury by modulating reactive oxygen species-mediated cellular autophagy via regulating CFTR ubiquitination
This study investigated the role of STIP1 homology and U-box protein 1 (STUB1), an E3 ubiquitin ligase, and cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), a chloride channel, in CaOx-related renal damage and autophagy regulation.  HK-2 cells were treated with various doses of CaOx monohydrate (COM) to simulate kidney injury in vitro. Cell viability, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and apoptosis were assessed. The regulation of CFTR ubiquitination by STUB1 was confirmed by immunoprecipitation. An in vivo model was established by injecting mice with glyoxylate. COM treatment dose-dependently decrease...

A highly bioactive THPC-crosslinked recombinant collagen hydrogel implant for aging skin rejuvenation
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Mar 30:131276. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.131276. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSkin aging, a complex physiological progression marked by collagen degradation, poses substantial challenges in dermatology. Recombinant collagen emerges as a potential option for skin revitalization, yet its application is constrained by difficulties in forming hydrogels. We have for the first time developed a highly bioactive Tetrakis(hydroxymethyl) phosphonium chloride (THPC)-crosslinked recombinant collagen hydrogel implant for aging skin rejuvenation. THPC demonstrated superior crosslinking efficiency compared t...

Stenotrophomonas maltophilia Isolated from the Gut Symbiotic Community of the Plastic-Eating Tenebrio molitor
In this study, we found that a PVC-eating insect, Tenebrio molitor, could survive by consuming PVC as a dietary supplement. To understand the gut symbiotic community, metagenomic analysis was performed to reveal the biodiversity of a symbiotic community in the midgut of Tenebrio molitor. Among them, seven genera were enriched from the midgut of the insect under culture conditions with PVC as carbon source. A strain of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia was isolated from the midgut symbiotic community of the plastic-eating Tenebrio molitor. To unravel the functional gene for the biodegradation enzyme, we sequenced the whole genom...
