Zeta potential of Z-DNA: A new signature to study B-Z transition in linear and branched DNA
In this study, for the first time we discover the zeta potential difference between B-DNA and lanthanum chloride-induced Z-DNA. A series of linear repeat i.e. (CG)n and (GC)n DNA as well as branched DNA (bDNA) structures was used for the B-to-Z DNA transition. Herein, the positive zeta potential of Z-DNA has been demonstrated as a powerful tool to discriminate between B-form and Z-form of DNA. The generality of the approach has been validated both in linear and bDNA nanostructures. Thus, we suggest zeta potential can be used as an ideal signature for the left-handed Z-DNA.PMID:38554916 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.131238 ...

Tunable durian seed gum-derived eutectogel as a novel coating material: Rheological, thermal, textural and barrier properties for enhanced food preservation
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Mar 28:131201. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.131201. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs a promising green and sustainable coating material, gum was extracted from durian seed to produce eutectogel, which the properties were tunable using natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES). Ten different eutectogels were successfully synthesized using durian seed gum (DSG) and xanthan gum (XG) gelators at different composition (5, 10, 15 %) to gel choline chloride-glucose (1:1), choline chloride-fructose (1:2) and betaine-glucose-water (1:1:1) NADESs. Results revealed that eutectogel was non-Newtonian and weak gel ...

Bovine serum albumin uptake and polypeptide disaggregation studies of hypoglycemic ruthenium(II) uracil Schiff-base complexes
J Inorg Biochem. 2024 Mar 27;255:112541. doi: 10.1016/j.jinorgbio.2024.112541. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOur prior studies have illustrated that the uracil ruthenium(II) diimino complex, [Ru(H3ucp)Cl(PPh3)] (1) (H4ucp = 2,6-bis-((6-amino-1,3-dimethyluracilimino)methylene)pyridine) displayed high hypoglycemic effects in diet-induced diabetic rats. To rationalize the anti-diabetic effects of 1, three new derivatives have been prepared, cis-[Ru(bpy)2(urdp)]Cl2 (2) (urdp = 2,6-bis-((uracilimino)methylene)pyridine), trans-[RuCl2(PPh3)(urdp)] (3), and cis-[Ru(bpy)2(H4ucp)](PF6)2 (4). Mechanistic insight into the impact of interaction between goethite and humic acid on the photooxidation and photoreduction of bifenthrin
Environ Res. 2024 Mar 27:118779. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2024.118779. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNumerous application of pyrethroid insecticides has led to their accumulation in the environment, threatening ecological environment and human health. Its fate in the presence of iron-bearing minerals and natural organic matter under light irradiation is still unknown. We found that goethite (Gt) and humic acid (HA) could improve the photodegradation of bifenthrin (BF) in proper concentration under light irradiation. The interaction between Gt and HA may improve BF degradation. On one hand, the adsorption of HA on Gt may decre...

The disrupting effect of chlormequat chloride on growth hormone is associated with pregnancy
Toxicol Lett. 2024 Mar 27;395:17-25. doi: 10.1016/j.toxlet.2024.03.004. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSince chlormequat chloride is widely applied as a plant growth regulator in agriculture and horticulture, its exposure through food consumption is common. We demonstrated previously that chlormequat chloride exposure during pregnancy led to embryos with bigger sizes associated with higher levels of growth hormone (GH) on gestation day 11 (GD11). However, the dose-effect relationship of chlormequat chloride at a lower dose range was not established, and the underlying mechanisms of its promoting effects on embryonic growth ...

Photo-induced leaching behaviors and biodegradability of dissolved organic matter from microplastics and terrestrial-sourced particles
This study investigates the photo-induced leaching behaviors of dissolved organic matter (DOM) from terrestrial-sourced particles (forest soil and leaf litter) and microplastics (MPs), specifically polystyrene (PS) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC), over a two-week period. We also examined the biodegradability and spectroscopic characteristics of the leached DOM from both sources. Our results reveal that DOM from microplastics (MP-DOM) demonstrates more persistent leaching behavior compared to terrestrial-derived DOM, even with lesser quantities per unit of organic carbon. UV irradiation was found to enhance DOM leaching across...

Multifunctional thiolated chitosan/puerarin composite hydrogels with pH/glutathione dual responsiveness for potential drug carriers
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Mar 28:130841. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.130841. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPuerarin (PUE), a natural and biologically active isoflavone extracted from Chinese medicine Pueraria lobata, can self-assemble to form a hydrogel without other chemical modifications. However, although PUE hydrogel has pH responsivity, but it is difficult to adapt to the changeable pathological environment. Therefore, thiolated chitosan (TCS) is synthesized and hybridized with PUE hydrogel to prepare TCS10/PUE composite hydrogel. The results of rheological measurement showed that the resultant composite hydrogels in...
