Canadian Internal Medicine Ultrasound (CIMUS) consensus statement: recommendations for mandatory ultrasound competencies for ultrasound-guided thoracentesis, paracentesis, and central venous catheterization
ConclusionsThe CIMUS group recommends 28 competencies be considered mandatory and 3 as optional for internal medicine physicians performing POCUS guided thoracentesis, paracentesis, and CVC placement. Outcomes of emergency surgical intervention for complications in the cardiac catheterization laboratory
ConclusionCardiac catheterization procedures have become increasingly safe, but complications can still occur, for which the cardiac surgeon should be briefed in a Heart Team meeting before taking up such cases. Fulminant myocarditis during postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy for lung cancer with atezolizumab: a case report
ConclusionMyocarditis can be fatal due to the rapid progression of symptoms. Close follow-up, a prompt diagnosis, and therapeutic intervention are important. Decreased lymphocyte counts, increased neutrophil/lymphocyte ratios, and the measurement of multiple myocardial biomarkers are considered useful for the early diagnosis of myocarditis. Screening for pulmonary arterial hypertension in patients with systemic sclerosis in the era of new pulmonary arterial hypertension definitions
CONCLUSIONS: With the recent criteria, PAH diagnosis in patients with SSc increased by 1.8-fold. Current algorithms for screening PAH are less sensitive with these revised criteria. Although the ASIG algorithm seems more sensitive, it can still miss the diagnosis.
