Echocardiographic artificial intelligence for pulmonary hypertension classification
Conclusions This preliminary study suggests promising potential for our ML model in predicting echocardiographic PH. Further research and validation are needed to fully assess its clinical utility in PH diagnosis and treatment decision-making. (Source: Heart)

Comparison of the ultrasound-guided supraclavicular and infraclavicular approaches for subclavian vein cannulation in children with congenital heart disease
Central venous catheterization (CVC) is widely used in pediatric critical patients. We thought to compare the success rate and safety of ultrasound-guided subclavian vein cannulation performed via infraclavicular and supraclavicular approaches. Canadian Internal Medicine Ultrasound (CIMUS) consensus statement: recommendations for mandatory ultrasound competencies for ultrasound-guided thoracentesis, paracentesis, and central venous catheterization
ConclusionsThe CIMUS group recommends 28 competencies be considered mandatory and 3 as optional for internal medicine physicians performing POCUS guided thoracentesis, paracentesis, and CVC placement. National curriculum development and implementation efforts should include training these mandatory competencies. (Source: Critical Ultrasound Journal)

Successful management of fatal cardiac tamponade resulting from intravascular intervention for central vein occlusion in hemodialysis patients: A case report
We present a case involving a challenging surgical procedure to address multiple complications, emphasizing the importance of early detection and appropriate interventions. The patient, who had a history of long-term central venous catheter use for hemodialysis, was diagnosed with central vein stenosis in addition to superior vena cava occlusion, hemodialysis catheter rupture, hypertension, and end-stage renal disease. Urgent ultrasound examination during surgery revealed pericardial effusion, prompting immediate pericardial drainage for stabilization. To overcome the complex challenges, we successfully performed an innomi...

Predicting Peri-Operative Cardiorespiratory Adverse Events in Children with Idiopathic Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Undergoing Cardiac Catheterization Using Echocardiography: A Cohort Study
We report the incidence and echocardiographic risk factors for adverse events in children with PAH undergoing general anesthesia for cardiac catheterization. Echocardiographic, hemodynamic, and adverse event data from consecutive PAH patients are reported. A multivariable predictive model was developed from echocardiographic variables identified by Bayesian univariable logistic regression. Model performance was reported by area under the curve for receiver operating characteristics (AUCroc) and precision/recall (AUCpr) and a pre-operative scoring system derived (0 –100). Ninety-three children underwent 158 cardiac cathet...

Comparison of ultrasound guided supraclavicular subclavian vein versus infraclavicular subclavian/axillary vein catheterization: A systematic review and meta analysis
CONCLUSION: Ultrasound-guided supraclavicular approach for subclavian vein catheterization is superior to the infraclavicular approach for subclavian/axillary vein catheterization, with higher first-pass success rates, shorter catheterization times. However, there were no differences in the complication rates.PMID:38506879 | DOI:10.1177/11297298241239092 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)

Outcomes of emergency surgical intervention for complications in the cardiac catheterization laboratory
ConclusionCardiac catheterization procedures have become increasingly safe, but complications can still occur, for which the cardiac surgeon should be briefed in a Heart Team meeting before taking up such cases. Even though these complications form a small percentage, the cardiologist should exercise some caution in attempting cases which could have a relatively easier surgical correction. Right ventricular pressure-strain relationship-derived myocardial work reflects contractility: validation with invasive pressure-volume analysis
Three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography-derived right ventricular (RV) ejection fraction (EF) and global longitudinal strain (GLS) are valuable RV functional markers; nevertheless, they are substantially load-dependent. Global myocardial work index (GMWI) is a novel parameter calculated by the area of the RV pressure-strain loop. By adjusting myocardial deformation to instantaneous pressure, it may reflect contractility. To test this hypothesis, we enrolled 60 patients who underwent RV pressure-conductance catheterization to determine load-independent markers of RV contractility and ventriculo-arterial coupling. Fulminant myocarditis during postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy for lung cancer with atezolizumab: a case report
ConclusionMyocarditis can be fatal due to the rapid progression of symptoms. Close follow-up, a prompt diagnosis, and therapeutic intervention are important. Decreased lymphocyte counts, increased neutrophil/lymphocyte ratios, and the measurement of multiple myocardial biomarkers are considered useful for the early diagnosis of myocarditis. Surgically induced aortic coarctation in a neonatal porcine model allows for longitudinal assessment of cardiovascular changes
CONCLUSIONS: This model addresses many limitations of prior COA models including neonatal creation at an expected anatomic position with intimal injury and vessel sizes similar to humans.PMID:38488518 | DOI:10.1152/ajpheart.00087.2024 (Source: American Journal of Physiology. Screening for pulmonary arterial hypertension in patients with systemic sclerosis in the era of new pulmonary arterial hypertension definitions
CONCLUSIONS: With the recent criteria, PAH diagnosis in patients with SSc increased by 1.8-fold. Current algorithms for screening PAH are less sensitive with these revised criteria. Although the ASIG algorithm seems more sensitive, it can still miss the diagnosis. The multimodal/algorithmic approach seems to be the best option for predicting PAH.PMID:38489342 | DOI:10.55563/clinexprheumatol/gzo4r2 (Source: Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology)
