The Efficacy of Magnesium Sulfate (MgSO4) Wet Dressing in Reducing Eyelid Swelling and Bruising after Blepharoplasty: A Randomized, Controlled, and Observer-Blinded Assessment Study
Facial Plast Surg DOI: 10.1055/s-0043-1767768The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of wet dressing with 50% magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) solution on decreasing eyelid swelling and bruising after blepharoplasty. Fifty-eight patients (23 male and 35 female) who underwent bilateral blepharoplasty were enrolled in our randomized clinical trial. One side of the periorbital area (upper and lower eyelids) per patient received a wet dressing with 50% MgSO4 solution randomly, and the other side was cooled with an ice pack from the first postoperative day for two consecutive days (30 minutes per time and twice a day)....

Reducing Surgical Risks in a Blepharoplasty
Facial Plast Surg Clin North Am. 2023 May;31(2):227-238. doi: 10.1016/j.fsc.2023.01.012. Epub 2023 Feb 26.ABSTRACTBlepharoplasty is one of the commonest procedures performed for facial rejuvenation. The eyelids play a vital role in maintaining ocular surface integrity and visual functioning. Care must be taken to avoid complications that pose a risk to vision and ocular comfort. In addition, cosmetic complications can adversely affect patient satisfaction. Here the authors review the common complications encountered with blepharoplasty surgery and discuss how to minimize the risk of these and how to treat them if they do a...

Upper Blepharoplasty: An Evidence-Based Assessment of Preoperative Considerations and Surgical Techniques
Facial Plast Surg DOI: 10.1055/s-0043-1764393Upper blepharoplasty is one of the most common facial plastic surgical procedures performed. Due to its growing popularity, an abundance of articles is available describing variations in the surgical technique and outcomes. As a result, it has become increasingly difficult to identify appropriate surgical literature validated by a high level of evidence. The purpose of this review is to identify and describe specific evidence-based components of the preoperative evaluation and surgical approach in upper blepharoplasty surgery. Brow Position Change and its Potential Risk Factors Following Upper Blepharoplasty: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
ConclusionsBrow position changes significantly following upper blepharoplasty according to the decrease in brow-pupil distance. The morphology of the brow showed no significant postoperative change. Different techniques and authors locations may result in different levels of postoperative brow descent.Level of Evidence IIIThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Sensory Innervation of the Upper Eyelid and Its Implication for Upper Eyelid Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Based on the findings, a certain degree of postoperative eyelid skin numbness is inevitable while eyelash innervation may be spared in upper blepharoplasty.PMID:36877568 | DOI:10.1097/IOP.0000000000002350 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty combined with ultrasound-guided percutaneous diode laser lipolysis: evaluating effectiveness with long-term outcome
AbstractLaser lipolysis may be considered for selective removal of excess orbital fat via minimally invasive lower blepharoplasty. To control the energy delivery to a precise anatomic location while avoiding complications, ultrasound guidance can be utilized. Under local anesthesia, a diode laser probe (Belody, Minslab, Korea) was introduced percutaneously to the lower eyelid. The tip of the laser device and changes in orbital fat volume were carefully controlled with ultrasound imaging. A 1470-nm wavelength was used for orbital fat reduction (maximal energy 300  J), and a 1064-nm wavelength was used to tighten the lower ...

Blepharoplasty is one of the commonest procedures performed for facial rejuvenation. The eyelids play a vital role in maintaining ocular surface integrity and visual functioning. Care must be taken to avoid complications that pose a risk to vision and ocular comfort. In addition, cosmetic complications can adversely affect patient satisfaction. Here the authors review the common complications encountered with blepharoplasty surgery and discuss how to minimize the risk of these and how to treat them if they do arise. With careful preoperative patient counseling, sound intraoperative technique, and appropriate postsurgical c...

Evaluation of the Risk of Hypertrophic Scarring and Keloid Following Eyelid Procedures: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: Our study concludes that there are no reported instances of keloid formation following cosmetic (non-burn) eyelid procedures in the existing literature. Hypertrophic scar formation is minimally reported. The absence of keloid scar formation on the eyelid is critical knowledge for surgeons when educating patients about maladaptive scarring risks following eyelid procedures.PMID:36797842 | DOI:10.1093/asj/sjad034 (Source: Hand Surgery)
