Changes in Lower Eyelid Positions After Blepharoplasty and Levator Advancement Surgery
Conclusions: It is important to remember that MRD2 could decrease during surgery. Therefore, to prevent overcorrection after upper eyelid surgery, MRD1 (not the overall PFH) should be considered to determine the appropriate extent of surgery during the procedure. Impact of Surgical Rejuvenation on Visual Processing and Character Attribution of Periorbital Aging
Conclusions: The authors provide an important combination of explicit and implicit data illustrating how surgical rejuvenation unveils the periorbital region to the observer. This change in pattern of inspection was associated with an improvement in the perception of character. (Source: Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)

Vertical V-Y Advancement Lifting Based on Fat Compartments: A New Approach for Lower Eyelid and Midcheek Rejuvenation
Conclusions: Lower eyelid blepharoplasty combined with vertical V-Y advancement lifting makes it possible to restore facial fat compartments. This procedure improves projection in the midcheek without fillers, thus achieving a more youthful appearance of the lower lid and lid-cheek contour in middle-aged women. Hyperspectral and Laser Speckle Contrast Imaging for Monitoring the Effect of Epinephrine in Local Anesthetics in Oculoplastic Surgery
Conclusions: The optimal time delay for skin incision in oculoplastic surgery is approximately 2 minutes after the injection of lidocaine with epinephrine. Longer delay does not lead to a further decrease in perfusion. As sO2 was only slightly reduced after injection, the results indicate that the use of epinephrine is safe in the periocular region. Acute Onset Endophthalmitis Following Bilateral Upper and Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
A 59-year-old woman presented with iritis and uveitis in the OD approximately 3 weeks after she underwent a bilateral upper and lower blepharoplasty by an outside oculoplastic specialist. Examination revealed a visual acuity of hand motion in the OD, scleral ulceration suspicious for prior globe perforation, dense vitritis, and loculations and membranes on echography. The patient was diagnosed with acute onset exogenous endophthalmitis. Vitreous aspiration and intravitreal injection of vancomycin and ceftazidime were performed. The patient underwent a pars plana vitrectomy, and vitreous culture demonstrated Streptococcus p...

Evaluation of Fat Excision versus Sparing in Lower Blepharoplasty Using Orbital Gray Scale Analysis
This study aimed to compare the results of traditional lower blepharoplasty with fat excision and the orbital septal plication method using orbital grey scale analysis as a new objective method for assessment. Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study on patients with bilateral baggy lower eyelids who underwent traditional lower blepharoplasty with fat excision or fat-sparing technique using orbital septal plication. All patients were followed up closely for 1 week and then after 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively to evaluate the study’s outcomes. Results: The study was conducted using 40 patients (2...

31877 Treatment of lower eyelid bags with laser blepharoplasty and fat repositioning
Introduction: Lower eyelid bags are considered a sign of aging, and they make people look tired, angry, and old. The transconjunctival laser blepharoplasty of lower eyelids is very effective method to remove lower eyelid bags and has lower surgical complications. But there are some complications such as deepening of wrinkles and sunken eyes. (Source: Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology)

“Single access upper blepharoplasty and lower lid lateral fat pad removal: a proven technique with low recurrence rate”
The transconjunctival approach is commonly performed in lower lid blepharoplasty so not to violate the orbicularis oculi muscle integrity and to avoid additional scars. This technique does not however permit easy access to the lateral fat pad (LFP). As upper and lower blepharoplasty are frequently combined in our clinical practice, removal of LFP via upper blepharoplasty is a surgical approach that we found most applicable with good outcomes. Reduced Tissue Response with Topical Khat Leaves after Eyelid Surgery: Preliminary Findings
CONCLUSIONS: The use of khat was associated with less tissue ecchymosis after oculoplastic surgery, although this was not statistically significant even following sub-population analysis. The outcome can be attributed to the active ingredients of cathinone and cathine, which cause vasoconstriction and lipolysis, and to the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative flavonoids and phenolic compounds. These encouraging preliminary findings warrant additional studies on a biochemical/cellular level.PMID:35972010 (Source: The Israel Medical Association Journal)
