The Management of Chemosis after Blepharoplasty
Facial Plast Surg DOI: 10.1055/a-1967-6050Chemosis is a common, though typically temporary complication of both upper and lower blepharoplasty surgery, though it is much more common after the latter. It occurs due to extravasation of fluid into the subconjunctival space precipitated by desiccation, inflammation, and manipulation of the conjunctiva and associated lymphatic drainage. Intraoperatively, minimizing surgical exposure and manipulation as well as maintaining a moist ocular surface can reduce the risks. Postoperatively, we propose a stepwise approach, starting with lubricants and escalating to increasingly potent a...

Surgical Correction of Tear Trough Deformity (TTD) with Orbicularis Retaining Ligament Release and Volume Augmentation for Periorbital Rejuvenation: Review of the Literature
ConclusionAlmost all authors agree on the necessity to release the tear trough retaining ligament together with volume enhancement. Transconjunctival and transcutaneous incisions are reported. Most recommend repositioning of the protruding orbital fat for volume enhancement to mostly subperiosteal, or pre-periosteal pockets. Other reported options include pedicled buccal fat pad transposition, segmental fat grafting, and minced micrografts. Internal as well as external fixation of repositioned fat flaps have been described. Despite lack of solid objective evidence, several of these techniques when properly executed for the...

The Rainbow Scale for the Assessment of dermatochalasis of the female upper eyelid: A validated scale.
Degeneration of the connective tissue of the upper eyelids results in dermatochalasis, which can be treated by upper eyelid blepharoplasty. Many guidelines for the fabrication of photographic evaluation material exist, a homogeneous weighted-validated photographic scale to assess and grade these photographs however does not exist yet. Quality of Life Improvement Following Blepharoplasty: A Prospective Study
CONCLUSION: Our prospective study shows that blepharoplasty increases most aspects of QoL significantly, has a positive effect on emotional and physical well-being, and reduces the incidence of depressive symptoms and anxiety.PMID:36397205 | DOI:10.1097/SCS.0000000000009119 (Source: Hand Surgery)

What factors influence the cost of orthognathic surgery among patients in the US?
Repositioning of the maxilla, mandible, and chin to restore facial harmony can be safely and effectively accomplished with concomitant procedures to manage obstructive nasal breathing, such as nasal septoplasty and bilateral inferior turbinate reductions, as well as cosmetic procedures, such as neck rejuvenation, rhinoplasty, otoplasty, blepharoplasty, and submental liposuction.1-5 Orthognathic correction has been shown to significantly improve the quality of life in individuals with congenital or acquired dentofacial deformities. Revision of Asian Upper Blepharoplasty
Revision of Asian upper blepharoplasty can be extremely challenging to surgeons when encountering cases with multiple complications and very limited tissue sources. In this article, the author is going to guide the newcomers or revision Asian upper blepharoplasty by showing the theory of double-fold formation to help them to make a workable surgical plan when dealing with revision Asian upper blepharoplasty cases. The pathogenesis of complications of upper blepharoplasty can be classified systematically and the solution to each individual complication is also illustrated. Typical clinical cases of revision Asian upper blep...

Do Google Trends Correlate with the Number of Facial Plastic Surgery Procedures Performed in the United States?
Conclusion This study showed that RSV for common cosmetic plastic surgery procedures did not significantly correlate with the number of procedures performed annually in the United States. More research is needed to further understand the use of Google Trends in gauging patient interest in a procedure and understanding what patients seek to learn about a procedure. Using infodemiology metrics to assess patient demand for oculoplastic surgeons in the United States: insights from Google Search Trends
CONCLUSIONS: Our results revealed vast disparities in surgical concentrations across the US and highlighted a number of areas with a relative undersupply of oculoplastic surgeons. Further investigation is necessary to examine the underlying factors impacting the supply and distribution of oculoplastic surgeons.PMID:36369941 | DOI:10.1080/01676830.2022.2142945 (Source: Orbit)

Small-Incisional Techniques for Double-Eyelid Blepharoplasty: A Systematic Review
ConclusionsThe small-incisional techniques offer a simple, safe, and reproducible approach to double-eyelids. It reduces post-op recovery time and allows a tenacious fixation. The fold-loss rate and other complication rate are acceptable when compared with the non-incisional and full-incisional techniques.Level of Evidence IIIThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Modified Simultaneous Double Eyelid Blepharoplasty and Ptosis Correction With a Single-Knot, Continuous, Nonincisional Technique
Conclusions: This simultaneous double eyelid blepharoplasty technique using a single-knot, continuous, nonincisional technique is relatively easy and effective, with minimal downtime and few postoperative complications, and avoids scarring for patients with mild to moderate blepharoptosis. A Very Simple Suture Technique for Correction of Primary Multiple Folds in Asian Eyelids
Conclusions: People with thin upper eyelid skin or slightly protruding eyes are more likely to develop multiple folds at a young age, even in their teens or 20s. The authors performed a skin suture during upper blepharoplasty, and then performed a transverse mattress suture on the spots where multiple folds are expected. Patients who underwent the suture technique showed better aesthetic results and a significantly lower recurrence rate. (Source: Journal of Craniofacial Surgery)

Incision-based Blepharoplasty with Preservation of Superficial and Deep Blood Vessels
Conclusions: This new blepharoplasty method yielded a high satisfaction rate, rapid dissipation of swelling, low bruising, and low complication rate. This effective and safe surgical method warrants wider use for single eyelid and mild/moderate ptosis. (Source: Journal of Craniofacial Surgery)
