Skip segment Hirschsprung ’s disease: diagnostic clues and surgical management
AbstractIt is challenging to establish a definitive diagnosis and initiate timely management for skip segment Hirschsprung ’s disease (SSHD). Herein, we report three cases of SSHD at our institution between December 2008 and March 2018. Patient #1 was misdiagnosed and underwent three successive operations within 2 years. Patient #2 and #3 were diagnosed timely based on previous experience. A segmental narrowing detec ted by barium enema may raise the possibility of SSHD. Laparoscopic-guided multipoint biopsy is regarded as a mini-invasive and purposeful way to take representative samples after locating the segmental nar...

Treatment for rectourethral fistulas after radical prostatectomy with biological material interposition through a perineal access
CONCLUSIONS: The interposition of biological material from porcine dermis through perineal approach is a safe alternative with good results in patients submitted to urethrorectal fistulorraphy after radical prostatectomy.PMID:33622527 | DOI:10.1016/j.acuro.2021.01.003 (Source: Actas Urologicas Espanolas)

Pulsion diverticula of the rectum: Radiological diagnosis and clinical implications
ConclusionPulsion diverticula of the rectum present as a wide ‐neck outpouching of the lateral or posterior rectal wall in adult patients. This acquired abnormality is usually associated with coexisting anorectal lesions or defecation disorders. The practising radiologists and colorectal surgeons should be aware of this uncommon condition, its appearance on barium enema and other imaging studies, and its clinical implications. Estimating the Preferences and Willingness-To-Pay for Colorectal Cancer Screening: An Opportunity to Incorporate the Perspective of Population at Risk into Policy Development in Thailand.
CONCLUSIONS: The risk reduction of CRC-related mortality, complication, screening interval, and cost influenced the CRC screening preferences of Thai adults. FIT was the most preferred. Policy makers can develop a successful CRC screening campaign using these findings, incorporating the perspective of the population at risk in policy formulation to accomplish their goals. An Unusual Presentation of Intussusception
This is the case of a 9-month-old female infant who presented to the emergency department with a history of several episodes of nonbilious and nonbloody emesis. The patient was found to be afebrile with normal vital signs and an otherwise normal physical examination. Initial plain film radiography was concern for possible obstruction. Imaging studies with ultrasonogram demonstrated intussusception. This was an unusual case of intussusception because children are typically more ill-appearing with vomiting, diarrhea, fevers, lethargy, and blood in stool. Management options included surgery, pneumatic enema reduction, and bar...

A Case of Segmental Hypoganglionosis of the Colon.
Abstract A 64-year-old female was admitted to the hospital with constant abdominal pain. She had been previously hospitalized five times in 2 years with similar symptoms. Computed tomography revealed dilatation and fecal impaction from the ileum to the transverse colon. A barium enema and simultaneous ileus tube radiography demonstrated a segment of narrow descending-sigmoid colon. Colonoscopy did not show any mucosal change. These symptoms did not improve with conservative therapy when a descending and sigmoid colectomy was performed. In terms of histology, there was a disappearance of ganglion cells, and...

Imaging alternatives to colonoscopy: CT colonography and colon capsule. European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) and European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR) Guideline – Update 2020
Endoscopy DOI: 10.1055/a-1258-4819 1 ESGE/ESGAR recommend computed tomographic colonography (CTC) as the radiological examination of choice for the diagnosis of colorectal neoplasia.Strong recommendation, high quality evidence.ESGE/ESGAR do not recommend barium enema in this setting.Strong recommendation, high quality evidence. 2 ESGE/ESGAR recommend CTC, preferably the same or next day, if colonoscopy is incomplete. The timing depends on an interdisciplinary decision including endoscopic and radiological factors.Strong recommendation, low quality evidence.ESGE/ESGAR suggests that, in centers with expertise in an...

FDG-PET/CT as the superior imaging modality for inflammatory bowel disease
Conclusions: We argue global FDG-PET/CT will be the gold standard moving forward for the diagnosis and clinical management of IBD. This molecular imaging technique has demonstrated superiority over purely structural imaging modalities. Therefore, future studies should further explore the role of FDG-PET/CT in IBD, as well as compare results to other imaging modalities. (Source: Journal of Nuclear Medicine)
