Elastic fusion biopsy versus systematic biopsy for prostate cancer detection: Results of a multicentric study on 1119 patients
ConclusionIn the everyday practice target biopsy with Koelis™ achieves a good CDR for all PCa and csPCa, which is significantly improved by subsequent systematic sampling of the prostate. The outstanding outcomes of fusion biopsy are confirmed also in biopsy-naïve patients. Elevated PI-RADS score and positive digital rectal examination are strongly associated with presence of PCa.ResumenObjetivosEvaluar la precisión de las biopsias guiada y sistemática para la detección del cáncer de próstata (CP) y CP clínicamente significativo (CPCS) en la práctica diaria, anali...

Retrograde intrarenal surgery without fluoroscopy: Is it possible? A randomized prospective study, an extraordinary experience.
CONCLUSION: The use of fluoroscopy does not alter the complication frequency and stone-free rate. We think that the use of fluoroscopy is not mandatory in cases in which renal pelvis access is achieved especially with semirigid ureteroscopy and that unnecessary fluoroscopy increases radiation exposure. Effect of JJ stent on outcomes of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy treatment of moderate sized renal pelvic stones: A randomized prospective study.
Abstract PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of JJ stents on SWL treatment of moderate (15-25mm) renal pelvic stones. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between January 2016 and December 2017, a total of 152 adult patients who were planned to undergo SWL for a single radiopaque renal pelvic stone were included in the study. Patients with solitary kidney, congenital abnormality, skeletal tract abnormalities, previous urinary system surgery, hydronephrosis (grade 2 or more), untreated urinary tract infection, bleeding disorder, and suspected pregnancy were excluded. The remaining 114 patients were randomly divided into two gro...

Undetectable PSA after radical prostatectomy is more likely in low burden N+ prostate cancer patients when an extended lymph node dissection is performed.
CONCLUSIONS: ePLND is more likely to predict undetectable PSA at third month after radical prostatectomy, irrespective of disease characteristics. PMID: 31174878 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Actas Urologicas Espanolas)

Transition from active surveillance to observation in prostate cancer patients older than 75 years. A long follow-up series.
The objective of this work is to analyse those patients with prostatic cancer who have been in AS with 75 years of age or more and assess the safety of the observation in an AS series with a long follow-up. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We analysed our prospective cohort of AS patients between the years 1999 and 2018,including those who had been in follow-up with 75 years or more. They were offered treatment with curative intent when there were progression criteria and transition to observation under the urologist's decision. Some intermediate risk patients were included in the analysis. Comorbidity changes were analysed with...

Precise characterization of urinary tract innervation using three-dimensional reconstruction: A contemporary review.
Abstract A precise understanding of the autonomic innervation of the urinary tract is crucial to successful management of urologic disease given the important role that neurophysiology plays in genitourinary pathology. Recent studies using a combination of contemporary histopathology and imaging technologies have furthered our understanding of the spatial nerve distribution in the kidneys, ureters, and bladder. The findings of these recent studies may have important clinical applications in expanding our knowledge of the etiology and treatment of disease processes affecting the urinary tract. In this narrative rev...

Renal Doppler ultrasound resistive index vs. renal scintigraphy with 99mTc-DTPA as diagnostic test for ureteropelvic junction obstruction in children.
es MG, Belmonte Hernández MV Abstract OBJECTIVE: A cross-sectional study was carried out with the objective of evaluating the usefulness of Doppler ultrasound with resistive index (RI) measure compared with renal scintigraphy with 99mTc-DTPA in children with unilateral ureteropelvic junction obstruction. METHODS: The study included children under 15 years with a diagnosis of unilateral ureteropelvic junction obstruction, healthy contralateral kidney with or without an antecedent of ureteropyeloplasty. The selected patients were sent to the Nuclear Medicine Department to carry out a renal scintigraphy w...
