Information regarding polypill treatment is lacking
We read with interest the recently published clinical trial of Mann et  al.,1 which is a subgroup analysis of the International Polycap Study-3 (TIPS-3) trial.2 The TIPS-3 trial was a double-blinded, 2-by-2-by-2 factorial randomized controlled trial, including participants, without history of cardiovascular disease, with intermediate or high cardiovascular risk. Inter ventions were daily polypill (containing simvastatin, atenolol, hydrochlorothiazide, and ramipril) versus placebo; aspirin, 75 mg/d, versus placebo; and vitamin D versus placebo. We thank Dufour and Devresse1 for their interest in our report.2 Indeed, the International Polycap Study-3 trial used a 3-way factorial design to examine the effects of aspirin, of a polypill (containing atenolol, ramipril, simvastatin, and hydrochlorothiazide), and of vitamin D versus respective placebo. In our present report, we address the effects of aspirin versus placebo in those with an estimated glomerular filtration rate of   (Source: Kidney International)

Reusable passive sampler with carbon nanotubes for monitoring contaminants in wastewater: Application, regeneration and reuse
In this study, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were successfully applied, regenerated, and reused as a sorbent in passive samplers for monitoring contaminants in treated and untreated wastewater at three wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) located in different urbanization areas in northern Poland. Three cycles of chemical and thermal regeneration of used sorbents were performed. It was shown that it is possible to regenerate CNTs a minimum of three times and reuse them in passive samplers while maintaining the desired sorption properties. The obtained results confirm that the CNTs are perfectly in line with the main principles of...

Comparing the effectiveness of propranolol versus atenolol in inducing clinical clearance in the treatment of infantile haemangioma: A randomised controlled trial
Conclusions: Propranolol (2 mg/kg/day) is better than atenolol (1 mg/kg/day) in inducing complete clinical clearance of IH although the results need to be reproduced in larger studies. ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03237637 (Source: Indian Journal of Dermatology)

Insights into degradation of pharmaceutical pollutant atenolol via electrochemical advanced oxidation processes with modified Ti < sub > 4 < /sub > O < sub > 7 < /sub > electrode: Efficiency, stability and mechanism
Environ Res. 2023 Apr 15:115920. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2023.115920. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA novel active Ce-doped Ti4O7 (Ti/Ti4O7-Ce) electrode was prepared and evaluated for improvement of the refractory pollutants degradation efficiency in Electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs). The results showed that the addition of Ce in Ti/Ti4O7 electrode leading to great impact on •OH generation rate and electrode stability compared to pristine Ti/Ti4O7 electrode. Ti/Ti4O7-Ce electrode presented efficient oxidation capacity for pharmaceutical pollutant atenolol (ATL) in EAOPs, which could be attributed to the...

A comparative study on Fe(III)/H < sub > 2 < /sub > O < sub > 2 < /sub > and Fe(III)/S < sub > 2 < /sub > O < sub > 8 < /sub > < sup > 2- < /sup > systems modified by catechin for the degradation of atenolol
In this study, the performance, mechanism, degradation pathways and products toxicity of PS (Fe(III)/PS/CAT) and H2O2 (Fe(III)/H2O2/CAT) systems were compared using atenolol (ATL) as a model contaminant. 91.0% of ATL degradation was reached after 60 min in H2O2 system which was much higher than that in PS system (52.4%) under the same experimental condition. CAT could react directly with H2O2 to produce small amounts of HO• and the degradation efficiency of ATL was proportional to CAT concentration in H2O2 system. However, the optimal CAT concentration was 5 μM in PS system. The performance of H2O2 system was more susce...

Simultaneous determination of fourteen pharmaceuticals in sewage sludge using online solid-phase extraction-liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry combined with accelerated solvent extraction
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Mar 21. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-26072-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAn online solid-phase extraction (SPE) liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry method (HPLC-MS/MS) combined with accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) was developed for simultaneous determination of 14 pharmaceuticals in sludge. In the online SPE procedures, ultrapure water with no additives was used as the loading solvent. In addition, low molecular weight targets such as atenolol were difficult to retain on SPE column after acetone was added to the washing solvent. The response signal of analytes can be greatly i...
