Considering traditional Chinese medicine as adjunct therapy in the management of chronic constipation by regulating intestinal flora
Biosci Trends. 2024 Mar 25. doi: 10.5582/bst.2024.01036. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic constipation is one of the most common gastrointestinal disorders worldwide. Due to changes in diet, lifestyle, and the aging population, the incidence of chronic constipation has increased year by year. It has had an impact on daily life and poses a considerable economic burden. Nowadays, many patients with chronic constipation try to seek help from complementary and alternative therapies, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is often their choice. The intestinal flora play an important role in the pathogenesis of constipation...

Astragalus polysaccharides ameliorates experimental colitis by regulating memory B cells metabolism
Chem Biol Interact. 2024 Mar 22:110969. doi: 10.1016/j.cbi.2024.110969. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIt is well-established that the reduced Memory B cells (MBCs) play an important role in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis (UC), rendering them a potential therapeutic target for UC intervention. Astragalus polysaccharide (APS), a primary active constituent derived from the classic traditional Chinese medicine Astragalus membranaceus (AM), has been used for centuries in the treatment of UC in both human and animal subjects due to its renowned immunomodulatory properties. However, it is unknown whether APS can regulate ...

New Cyclomucidoside C from Astragalus mucidus
A new cycloartane-type triterpene glycoside that was called cyclomucidoside C was isolated from the aerial part of the plantAstragalus mucidus Bunge. Its chemical structure was elucidated based on1H and13C NMR spectral data (COSY, HSQC, HMBC). Studies of extracts ofA. mucidus and cyclomucidoside C did not show antibacterial activity against the three strainsEscherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus, andPseudomonas aeruginosa.
