Prehabilitation in Adults Undergoing Cancer Surgery: A Comprehensive Review on Rationale, Methodology, and Measures of Effectiveness
Curr Oncol. 2024 Apr 9;31(4):2185-2200. doi: 10.3390/curroncol31040162.ABSTRACTCancer surgery places a significant burden on a patients' functional status and quality of life. In addition, cancer surgery is fraught with postoperative complications, themselves influenced by a patient's functional status. Prehabilitation is a unimodal or multimodal strategy that aims to increase a patient's functional capacity to reduce postoperative complications and improve postoperative recovery and quality of life. In most cases, it involves exercise, nutrition, and anxiety-reducing interventions. The impact of prehabilitation has been e...

If initiating an antidepressant during breastfeeding is necessary, drugs with a superior safety profile and substantial epidemiological data, such as SSRIs, should be favored and prescribed at the lowest effective dose. Recommendation 3: For the short-term alleviation of anxiety symptoms and sleep disturbanc...

Sweet taste preference as a moderator of links between internalizing symptoms and alcohol craving
CONCLUSIONS: For those low and moderate in sweet taste preference, internalizing symptoms appeared positively linked with alcohol craving. For those high in sweet taste preference, alcohol craving remained elevated regardless of anxiety symptoms, but appeared to decrease with heightened depressive symptoms. Should future research replicate this finding using controlled research designs that demonstrate temporality and causality, tailored early AUD interventions may be justified based on individuals' levels of sweet taste preference.PMID:38662513 | DOI:10.15288/jsad.23-00107 (Source: Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs)

The Association Between Tinnitus Sensation-Level Loudness and Sleep Quality in Patients With Subjective Consecutive Tinnitus: A Mediation Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that tinnitus sensation-level loudness does not directly have an effect on sleep quality. However, it indirectly impacts sleep quality, mediated by SAS scores, SDS scores, the impact of tinnitus on life measured using the VAS, and self-reported tinnitus annoyance. As such, alleviating anxiety and depression in patients with tinnitus may result in reductions in their insomnia even if there is no reduction in tinnitus loudness. Importantly, otolaryngologists and other clinicians treating tinnitus should refer patients with tinnitus suffering from insomnia with comorbid depression or anxiety...
