Electric and magnetic field pollution in near substations and investigation of anxiety and depressive effects on adult individuals living in this area
In conclusion, there is no statistically convincing evidence of a relationship between EMF exposure and anxiety-depression (p > 0.05). This result shows that there may be more meaningful results in places with higher EMF levels. We interpreted the fact that exposure to electromagnetic fields does not cause anxiety and depression in individuals, as the measured values are below the limit values.PMID:38699873 | DOI:10.1080/15368378.2024.2348574 (Source: Electromagnetic Biology and Medicine)

Qualitative Study of Food Insecurity in Hospitalized Pediatric Patients during the COVID-19 Pandemic
CONCLUSIONS: The COVID-19 pandemic impacted unemployment and poverty and consequently exacerbated FI. Our findings point to the need to focus on proximal societal solutions, such as federal policies aimed at food assistance and childcare. Understanding the challenges related to FI that caregivers and patients experience can improve screening, support, and treatment of patients presenting for care and inform the design of necessary interventions for individuals and communities beyond COVID-19.PMID:38701847 | DOI:10.14423/SMJ.0000000000001684 (Source: Southern Medical Journal)

Did a workplace sugar-sweetened beverage sales ban reduce anxiety-related SSB consumption during the COVID-19 pandemic?
CONCLUSIONS: SSB sales bans likely reduce SSB consumption through multiple pathways; buffering stress-related consumption may be one mechanism.PMID:38698591 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980024000995 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

The impact of negative affects on the high prevalence of anxiety, depression and stress in healthcare professionals
CONCLUSIONS: The high prevalence of anxiety, depression and stress in healthcare professionals is associated with the presence of negative affects. Mental disorders should be measured, and practices adopted to ensure well-being and job performance.PMID:38701170 | DOI:10.3233/WOR-230257 (Source: Work)

A case of Pitt-Hopkins syndrome: psychopharmacological approach for anxiety, insomnia, and agitation
We present the case report of a seven-year-old PTHS patient with anxiety, insomnia, and agitation. We discuss the psychopharmacological intervention options for this patient. The present case study reports on a 7-year-old female with PTHS, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and intellectual disability. She had insomnia, crying spells and agitation complaints. For anxiety symptoms and agitation, risperidone, fluoxetine, and clonazepam treatment were given by the neurologist which caused behavioral disinhibition, paroxysmal agitation and no benefit. After admission to our hospital, aripiprazole and hydroxyzine were prescribed f...

Assessment of Knowledge and Concern of People Living with HIV Regarding Human Mpox and Vaccination
CONCLUSION: The future study should focus on continuous education, promoting awareness through programs and establishing measures to successfully overcome identified variables that contribute to mpox pandemic understanding and attitudes. Applying the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic will help the management of mpox virus.PMID:38698752 | DOI:10.2174/011570162X293673240427062123 (Source: Current HIV Research)

Emerging evidence of context-dependent synapse elimination by phagocytes in the CNS
J Leukoc Biol. 2024 May 3:qiae098. doi: 10.1093/jleuko/qiae098. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrecise synapse elimination is essential for the establishment of a fully developed neural circuit during brain development and higher function in adult brain. Beyond immune and nutrition support, recent groundbreaking studies have revealed that phagocytic microglia and astrocytes can actively and selectively eliminate synapses in normal and diseased brains, thereby mediating synapse loss and maintaining circuit homeostasis. Multiple lines of evidence indicate that the mechanisms of synapse elimination by phagocytic glia are not u...

β-blockers as the First Line of Treatment for Hypertension Management
J Assoc Physicians India. 2023 Sep;71(9):95-100. doi: 10.59556/japi.71.0341.ABSTRACTβ-adrenergic blocker group of medicines has been traditionally used to control high blood pressure since propranolol was discovered by Sir James Black almost 50 years ago. They were the drug of choice in hypertension (HTN) associated with ischemic heart disease, tachyarrhythmias including atrial fibrillation (AF), and anxiety. Congestive cardiac failure was a relative contraindication, but with major advances in science, it became an absolute indication. However, with the advent of newer antihypertensives, especially calcium channel blocke...

Increased Pill Burden and Adverse Effects of Psychotropics Correlated with Poor Quality of Life and Medication Nonadherence: A Cross-sectional Drug Utilization Study at a Tertiary Care Hospital in Delhi during COVID-19 Pandemic
CONCLUSION: In the tertiary care hospital described, rational drug prescribing was followed. Increase in the number of drugs per prescription was found to be associated with poor QOL and the development of ADRs led to medication nonadherence in the patients. Further studies with larger sample sizes are needed to confirm these results. How to cite this article: Kumar A, Halder S, Srivastava S, et al. App-based support for breast cancer patients to reduce psychological distress during therapy and survivorship - a multicentric randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSION: Patients with breast cancer suffer from psychological problems including anxiety and depression during and after therapy. Personalized, supportive care with the app PINK! Coach turned out as a promising opportunity to significantly improve psychological distress in a convenient, accessible, and low-threshold manner for breast cancer patients independent of their stage of disease (EBC/MBC), therapy phase (aftercare or therapy) or therapy itself (chemotherapy/other therapy options). The app is routinely available in Germany as a DiGA. Clinical Trial Registration: DRKS Trial Registry (DRKS00028699).PMID:38699636 |...

cGAS/STING signaling pathway-mediated microglial activation in the PFC underlies chronic ethanol exposure-induced anxiety-like behaviors in mice
In this study, we initially confirmed that chronic ethanol exposure (CEE) induces anxiety-like behaviors in mice through open field test and elevated plus maze test. The cGAS/STING signaling pathway has been confirmed to exhibits a significant association with inflammatory signaling responses in both peripheral and central systems. Western blot analysis confirmed alterations in the cGAS/STING signaling pathway during CEE, including the upregulation of p-TBK1 and p-IRF3 proteins. Moreover, we observed microglial activation in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) of CEE mice, characterized by significant alterations in branching morp...

GSE247439 miRNA-mediated inhibition of an actomyosin network in hippocampal pyramidal neurons restricts sociability in adult male mice
Contributors : Ramanathan Narayanan ; Pierre-Luc Germain ; Gerhard SchrattSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism :We recently reported that the loss of the microRNA cluster miR-379-410 leads to hypersocial behavior and anxiety in mice. With this study, we show that ablating miR-379-410 in excitatory neurons of the postnatal mouse hippocampus recapitulates hypersociability, but not anxiety. At the cellular level, miR-379-410 loss in excitatory neurons leads to increased excitatory synaptic transmission and upregulation of an actomyosin gene network. Re-expression of three cluster miRNAs,...

The effect of somatic pain and comorbid mental distress on oral health-related quality of life in orthodontic patients
ConclusionOrthodontic patients reporting somatic pains were at a significantly higher risk of worsening OHRQoL during treatment, and this adverse effect is partially mediated by anxiety and depression.Clinical relevanceOur findings highlight the necessity for the assessment of general health and mental well-being during orthodontic interventions. To prevent delays in treating general disorders and the potential failure of orthodontic treatments, we encourage increased attentiveness towards patients with somatic symptoms and consideration of the adverse effects of comorbid mental distress.
