Non-cardiac comorbid health outcomes and prevalence after myocardial infarction: an umbrella review
CONCLUSIONS: Our umbrella meta-analysis provided comprehensive evidence of the association between MI and several non-cardiac health conditions. The robustness of our study is attributed to the integration of evidence across several studies, thus, these insights offer valuable treatment options for policymakers and physicians to develop personalized health strategies.PMID:38708457 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202404_36014 (Source: Pharmacological Reviews)

Older adults, perceived ageism, civic participation and mental health: a qualitative study
CONCLUSIONS: Ageism made it difficult for people to participate in civic life, which has been linked to better mental health. These findings emphasize the need to encourage inclusive civic involvement to improve older individuals' mental health.PMID:38709682 | DOI:10.1080/13607863.2024.2348611 (Source: Aging and Mental Health)

The Perceived Functions and Phenomenological Characteristics of Future Thinking and Clinically Significant Generalized Anxiety Disorder Symptoms
Clin Psychol Psychother. 2024 May-Jun;31(3):e2978. doi: 10.1002/cpp.2978.ABSTRACTCurrent research indicates that anxiety disorders and elevated levels of trait anxiety are associated with biases and impairments when thinking of personally relevant future events, that is, future thinking. However, to date, little research has been conducted into how people with symptoms of clinical anxiety perceive the functions of future thinking. The current study presents a cross-sectional survey comparing individuals with elevated symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and related functional impact (N = 51, 43.1% female, Mage = ...

Psychological Group Interventions for Reducing Distress Symptoms in Healthcare Workers: A Systematic Review
Clin Psychol Psychother. 2024 May-Jun;31(3):e2980. doi: 10.1002/cpp.2980.ABSTRACTHealthcare workers exposed to emergencies and chronic stressors are at high risk of developing mental health problems. This review synthesized existing studies of group psychological therapy to reduce distress symptoms in healthcare workers (i.e., as complex and heterogeneous emotional states, characterized by the presence of symptoms associated with post-traumatic stress disorder, burnout, anxiety, depression and moral injury). Searches were conducted using PRISMA guidelines and databases such as PubMed, PsycINFO, Medline and Web of Science, ...

The Effects of Patient Preference on Clinical Outcome, Satisfaction and Adherence Within the Treatment of Anxiety and Depression: A Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: While this meta-analysis did not find a positive effect of considering patient preference on clinical outcome, it was associated with slightly better treatment satisfaction and adherence. Accommodating preference of patients with anxiety and depression can improve treatment.TRIAL REGISTRATION: PROSPERO: CRD42020172556.PMID:38706162 | DOI:10.1002/cpp.2985 (Source: Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy)

Rumination mediates the relationships between social anxiety and depression with problematic smartphone use in Chinese youth: A longitudinal approach
AbstractSocial anxiety and depression are closely related to smartphone use severity, and rumination is proposed as a prominent mediator. However, their longitudinal relationship is rarely explored. Three hundred and ninety-seven participants (272 females,Mage  = 21.45 yrs.) completed online questionnaires at three waves half a year apart. At wave 1, social anxiety and depression were assessed, followed by the evaluation of rumination at wave 2, and finally the measurement of smartphone use severity at wave 3. Structural equation modeling demonstrated that rumination fully mediated the relationship between psychopathol...

Adverse Childhood Experiences Moderate the Relationship between Pain and Later Suicidality Severity Among Youth: A Longitudinal High-Risk Cohort Study
Pain in adolescence can lead to the development of serious mental health issues, including suicidality. This risk may be strengthened among youth exposed to more adverse childhood experiences (ACEs; abuse, neglect, household challenges). This longitudinal study examined the role of ACEs in the relationship between pain and later suicidality onset and severity among a cohort of adolescents at risk for developing mental health problems. Participants were 139 healthy youth (Mage=13.74 years, SD=1.56, 64% female) between the ages of 11-17 years, recruited based on parental history of depression or anxiety.
