The hibernation cycle of thirteen-lined ground squirrels lasts for 5 –7 months and compr...

Acute kidney injury and liver disease in an American bulldog with suspected leptospirosis
Can Vet J. 2024 Apr;65(4):385-388.ABSTRACTA 6-year-old spayed female American bulldog was brought to a veterinary clinic with a 3-day history of vomiting, lethargy, anorexia, icterus, hemorrhagic diarrhea, and oliguria. The dog's clinical signs, complete blood (cell) count, serum biochemistry, urinalysis, and diagnostic imaging were indicative of acute kidney injury and acute hepatopathy consistent with leptospirosis. Treatment for leptospirosis was initiated but, due to the dog's lack of response and progression of clinical signs, euthanasia was ultimately elected after 3 d of hospitalization. The dog tested negative for ...

Tongue edema as an adverse drug reaction to low-dose olanzapine in a cancer patient receiving palliative care
Palliat Support Care. 2024 Apr 2:1-2. doi: 10.1017/S147895152400052X. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVES: Olanzapine is an atypical neuroleptic indicated for treatment of various psychiatric disorders, but it has also several indications in palliative care (PC) patients: opioids misuse, nausea not related to chemotherapy, anorexia-cachexia syndrome, and sleep and mood disorders. Peripheral and facial edema are a rare side effect of the treatment with olanzapine. I report a case of an advanced cancer patient cared receiving PC who developed moderate tongue edema on day 1 of a low dose of olanzapine.METHODS: A patient ...

The impact of weight and negative body image on the body schema in undergraduate women
CONCLUSIONS: These results imply that body dissatisfaction and thinness are predictors of massive body schema distortions. An oversized body schema could maintain various weight-control behaviors, thus risking the development, maintenance, or relapse of an eating disorder.PMID:38565782 | DOI:10.1007/s00221-024-06827-6 (Source: Experimental Brain Research)

Pregorexia and its significance for physiological processes in the fetus - a review of current knowledge
Psychiatr Pol. 2023 Dec 31;57(6):1181-1194. doi: 10.12740/PP/OnlineFirst/150421. Epub 2023 Dec 31.ABSTRACTAnorexia occurring during pregnancy can have a devastating effect on the pregnant woman's physiological clinical picture, mental health, and fetal development. This is because eating behaviors, the fetal programming process, and behavioral-cognitive relationships all contribute to shaping intrauterine conditions. Dysfunction at the neural level predisposes to a disturbed relationship with food, reduced self-acceptance, perinatal depression, and a negative perception of body image. The health consequences of reduced ene...
