WAMC: Low GPA, Rejected from SMP
Hi there. Today I got the news that I was rejected from an SMP that I thought could help me redeem my low GPA, and now I'm feeling discouraged about continuing to apply. 2.9 sGPA and 3.0 cGPA for TMDSAS. Same for AMCAS and AACOMAS. MCAT score(s) and breakdown: I take the actual MCAT this Friday 5/27, but have been scoring 507-509 on AAMC practice tests. CP usually on the lower end around 124-126, CARS around 127-128, B/B and P/S around 128-130. State of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

AAMC PREview Score Importance
So my score on AAMC PREview was an 8 (apparently 98th percentile), and I had a couple of questions about it. 1. Do all schools see the score, and do they all take it into account? Or is it just the ones that say they do? 2. How much does this help/hurt my chances? Does it actually do anything at all for most schools? 3. How accurate is this thing? Is it better/worse than CASPER? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Can I vent about situational judgment tests?
I'm so frustrated. I took Casper last year and may have to reapply this year, don't know yet because I'm on several waitlists. But apparently PREview is a new thing? And it's $100? And Casper changed its fee from $12/test and $12/distribution to a fixed $85? I'm flat out poor and also don't qualify for AAMC fee assistance. A handful of the schools that I actually have a shot at getting into require these expensive tests which honestly are pointless because anyone can figure them out and give... Retaking MCAT with only June to August studying? Advice?
I studied part time in 2021 from January to August and took my MCAT in late August. I ended up with a 496 (124/122/127/123) even though I was scoring around a 506-510 on the AAMC FLs. Honestly, my nerves got the best of me and taking the test early with a lot of anxiety the night before didn't help. I haven't touched the actual material since because I started graduate school (MPH - Epi & Biostats) but I have studied some in respect to the classes I have taken. I want to study at least 5... Do LORS need to include AAMC ID# or CAS ID#?
Does any DO school require the letters of recommendation to include the CAS ID#? Any MD school requiring letters to have AAMC ID#? I'm not sure if I should ask my letter writers to make two different copies of their letters for the MD and the DO program because of some requirement like this. Thank you! AAMC Preview and Casper?
from here, there are a good amount of schools that require or recommend aamc preview. For the schools that recommend it, will we be at a disadvantage if we don't take it (even though its so new)? Just asking because I need to know whether to stretch my budget for this (after already spending so much on MCAT prep and saving for med school apps...) Mostly looking for adcom advice here, thanks! Balancing MD application and MCAT retake vs retake
Hi SDN, new member here. I just took the MCAT in April and got a 504 (127,125,126,126) which was disappointing as my AAMC FL averages were around 509-510 and I had a bad loss of focus on test day that just got the better of me. So I plan to do a retake by the end of the summer, maybe as early as mid June or early July (depending on where I'm at in practice again). I've completed a fair amount of the application already but feel I should redo my PS and put more time into the activities... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Debating if Im considered URM
Hi, I'm currently in the process of applying and don't know if I should categorize myself as urm in amcas. I want to do things correctly so I came here for advice. I'm PuertoRican and low SES. Although I am aware that PuertoRicans who live on the states are considered urm I'm still living in Puerto Rico not in Mainland USA. I saw some post from a while ago about some AAMC Policies that specifically said Mainland Puertoricans were urm but since that was from long ago I wanted to see what is... Name on transcript
I sent my transcripts last week and one of them is already received. It just came to my attention that my middle name appears on both of my transcripts, but on AMCAS/AAMC profile I entered my name as it appears on my ID (without a middle name). Same thing with transcript delivery service I used. I'm not sure how to fix this problem as the AAMC website states name should match that on your ID. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Retaking AAMC exams, how inflated should I except my scores to be?
Hi SDN, I'm retaking the AAMC FLs since I'm retaking my MCAT on the 27th of May. I scored 509 (127,127,127,128)on FL1 two months ago, and when I took it recently, I got a 517 (129,129,130,129). I don't know if this is because my score is very inflated or because I have genuinely improved, and should feel more comfortable during my retake in scoring near a 514. Let me know if you have similar experiences and what ended up happening! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Very disappointed from AAMC FL1:
Honestly feel pretty defeated at the moment. What can I do to even come close to something north of 510+? I've already rescheduled once to now take on 5/27 My prep methods, starting since December: - did ~ 1 mo content (Kaplan books + KA vids); have been doing Anki (Miledown + my own decks) daily since - started UCopyright immediately + reviews; on second round of U**** currently - FLs (scores in image below) - AAMC section banks (51%, 58%, 68%) - have tried what feels... reapplying and writing disadvantaged essay in AAMC
I'm likely to not get in this cycle, and I was wondering if there's any stigma/stupidity in writing a disadvantaged essay for this upcoming cycle when you didn't last cycle. My reasoning is that I have a gap year clinical experience I want to focus on in my new PS, while this cycle's PS was focused on my early childhood struggles. Would med schools think poorly of this? I just want more space to expand upon myself. For reference, my childhood struggles were growing up a with mother having a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
