Senate proposal to increase pain workforce by > 100%
Opioid Workforce Act of 2021 Introduced in Senate Sens. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) introduced the Opioid Workforce Act of 2021 in the Senate on April 27. www.aamc.org What are people's thoughts on this new Bill? In short, the bill will supposedly be active from 2024-2028, increasing the number of training spots in pain management (which fields this will include is unclear, whether its strictly pain management fellowships or other residencies that are involved in pain management such as PM&R, psych, etc). The planned numb...

Senate proposal to add 1000 new pain residency positions
Opioid Workforce Act of 2021 Introduced in Senate Sens. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) introduced the Opioid Workforce Act of 2021 in the Senate on April 27. www.aamc.org This bill was recently introduced in the senate aiming to add 1,000 new Medicare-supported positions in the areas of pain and addiction medicine. Given that there are currently less than 350 pain fellowship spots, is there any concern that this will significantly reduce training exposure during fellowship and heavily oversaturate the pain job market? Current pa...

Chance at 510+?
Hey SDN, Looking for advice as to how I should interpret the following scores. I test on 5/15 (a week from now) and anything above a 510 I would be thrilled with. Retaking a 503, 505 from four years ago, My practice scores are as follows: NS diagnostic (3/6): 509 (126/127/128/128) NS FL1 (3/20): 506 (127/125/126/128) NS FL2 (3/27): 511 (128/128/127/128) AAMC FL1 (4/4): 509 (128/123/129/129) NS FL3 (4/11): 507 (127/124/127/129) AAMC FL2 (4/21): 505 (128/125/127/125) AAMC FL3: (5/1)... Which AAMC Schools Require ALL LETTERS SUBMITTED for Secondary?
Hi friends, First time posting on SDN. I noticed the other day that Temple University is a school that requires all of your listed/assigned letters to be sent in before they send out a secondary. Are there other MD schools that do this? Or any DO schools that y'all have encountered? Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Very Cookie cutter applicant (WAMC, 3.91GPA, 510 MCAT)
Hello. I am just looking for some guidance and help as I feel incredibly anxious about the application process and want to know if someone can truly be honest about my chances as I am in my second gap year. I was feeling a lot more confident until I took my MCAT last week, I don’t have a score yet, but I feel like I totally bombed it (my AAMC FL’s were: 514, 518, 519, 514) and the more I think about the more mistakes I think I might have made. For this scenario, could you just treat it as if... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why is medical school still hard to get into if the U.S. has a shortage of physicians?
Wouldn't schools be better off increasing the size of their student body? U.S. physician shortage growing A new AAMC study projects a shortfall of up to 139,000 physicians by 2033. Among the factors: older patients and retiring doctors. www.aamc.org (Source: Student Doctor Network)

AAMC QPacks
Hey everyone! I'm working through the AAMC QPacks and wondered if anyone knows what the average percentages are and roughly how that correlates to MCAT section scores? Or I'd at least be interested to know what other's percentage range is so I know where I fall. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is 15 weeks with the Kaplan books, UWorld, and AAMC FL's a good enough strategy to get 505-508?
I want to take the MCAT in August. I just finished my pre reqs with a 3.2 GPA. I really don't know what strategy the high scorers are using but if I use the resources I mentioned and study around six hours a day, six days a week, do you think I will get into the 505-508 range or is there more to it than that? OHSU (IS) vs Ohio State vs Brown (WL)
I’ve been incredibly fortunate this cycle to have the above options. However I’m extremely conflicted between choosing between them. I’m confident that OHSU, OSU, and Brown are all excellent choices and will give me a great education which makes it all the more difficult to come to a definite decision. The AAMC traffic rules make this decision even more difficult. On 4/30 I’ll have to choose a single acceptance (OHSU vs Ohio State). After that date, I might get pulled off the WL at Brown... Took my second AAMC FL and got a decent score with a really funky score distribution :/
I got a 510 with a distribution of 123/131/127/129. My first FL was a 124/130/128/128 for another 510, but with several unanswered questions (31 correct, 18 unanswered) because I ran out of time. I studied everything that I missed thoroughly, and even managed to answer every question this time (though I still felt rushed by clock) only to get a slightly worse C/P score. Any advice on how to approach C/P at this stage so I can actually add points to it would be extremely helpful. The long... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

AAMC Endorses Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act of 2021
Newly reintroduced bill would increase federal support for physicians’ graduate medical education programs to increase access to care for patients nationwide www.aamc.org I feel like this needs its own thread. Given what we’ve seen in just the past few years with rad onc and EM, there’s no doubt this would decimate every field. Is there anything we can do as med students/residents? It seems like our professional societies don’t care. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Retaking AAMC FL validity
Hello! Just wanted to start a more recent thread for MCAT retakers who needed to retake the AAMC FLs. Did you find that your retake FL average was representative of your retake test day score? Or was it inflated? Was just wondering because I am taking my test this Friday 4/23 and while my average has improved, I'm not sure how much validity it holds. My scores for last year and now were/are: FL 1 = 500 ---> 506 (what I got on my first test day due to unbalanced score) FL 2 = 509 ---> 510... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Aamc fl#3 505....
Just took AAMC FL #3. Got a 505 (126,126,125,128). I've gone 497 (FL #1) and 501 (FL#2). My test is 3 weeks out (4/30). Is 3 weeks enough time to get to a 509-512 range? Obviously there are no guarantees, but I really want to walk into the testing center confident I can score 509+. I could postpone to 5/14 with no logistical problems. Any input is appreciated!
