AMA releases document on appropriate language and health equity
https://www.ama-assn.org/system/files/ama-aamc-equity-guide.pdf The AMA recently released this equity guide focused on how words nobody finds problematic are now problematic. For example, the term "diabetic" is dehumanizing - the correct term is "person with diabetes." I wonder if this was concluded after surveying diabetics and finding that the majority consider the term dehumanizing, or because a small handful of academics decided it was. The term "whitelist" or "blacklist" is also... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

AAMC Annual Statistics
In case anyone is interested, I just noticed that AAMC has published its latest treasure trove of statistical tables. The highlight for me, from Table A-1, is that applications for the class that just entered rose to 62,432 unique applicants submitting an average of 18 applications each, up from 53,030 applicants submitting an average of 17 applications each the previous cycle. This means the national matriculation rate dropped to 22,665/62,432 = 36.3%. Any drop in the number of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What does someone do if they have an A but are waitlisted to their dream school that takes people off the waitlist all the way into July?
Is it possible to say that one would matriculate to the A school, hold onto the waitlist spot, be accepted last week of July, drop the initial A, and matriculate at the dream school, or does AAMC not allow that with the April 30th deadline? Thank you. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

SDN Success Rate Charts
This thread is an update of the 2012 thread created by @sector9 and team, which uses AAMC Fact Tables A-24 and A-25 for the 2010-2012 applicants and acceptees. Unfortunately, the 2012 thread is a bit outdated and some of the links for the AAMC tables are not usable. The updated thread uses AAMC Fact Table A-23, Table A-24.1, Table A-24.2, Table A-24.3, Table A-24.4, and Table A-24.5 for the 2013-2015 applicants and acceptees that are... Reapply? (Texas resident)
Hi everyone, I just wanted to get some advice on what I could improve on my application in case I need to reapply. So far I have 1 II received in late July (TMDSAS) and 1 II received in Oct (AAMC). I am very grateful for the interviews that I have. However, I am surprised I haven't heard from more texas schools at this point in time, so I am worried about that, especially since TMDSAS seems to run earlier than AMCAS. Here are my stats: GPA: 3.86 (TMDSAS: 3.90), sGPA: 3.74 MCAT: 512 (taken... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I do an SMP? 3.48 GPA, 514 MCAT, some red flags
I graduated from state school with a 3.66 GPA, but the AAMC application would count that as a 3.48 because I had 2 grade forgivenesses (which I know don't count for med school) and B+'s were weighed more at my school than the AAMC application. 3.48 GPA, 3.40 sGPA. My GPA would be significantly higher, but I had one (literally only one) bad semester because I had a lot going on in my personal life. I got a D and an F in the same semester. I have 155 credits of mostly upper level bios and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I ’m at a 507-504 for the mcat
I’m at a 507-504 for the mcat (yes used aamc FLs 1, 2, respectively) and decided to push it back to January. I work 3 days (full day) a week, volunteering for about 9 hours per week, and have an organization that I founded that needs at least part-time dedication (5 hours per day for 4 days a week) from me. That leaves me with a delimma. My schedule is p.a.c.k.e.d. I wad told that I need to extend my mcat studying hours and reduce my volunteering time. Should I do that? My biggest concern... Two Questions
Hello, I would appreciate any input on these two questions. 1. I came across this question: “What is the final temperature of 1 mol of gas that performs 50J of work adiabatically? The initial temperature is 0 Celsius. (Gas const = 8.314J/(mol*K))?” They find the answer by doing PV=nRT, and get Tf = 6 Celsius. I’m wondering why they didn’t do -W = dU = n*cv*dT = 3/2 n*R*dT? 2. On one of the MCAT practice tests (AAMC MCAT Test 3R) in the Biological Sciences section #203 it asks: “A man... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

MCAT attempts Advice please
Hi all, I need feedback. I cancelled my MCAT exam after the bronze deadline when COVID was peak during Jan 2021. I thought it didn't count as an attempt. But I found out that AAMC actually counted it as an attempt when I was going to register for the September date. I already took twice after the Jan 2021 date and I was planning to take one more time in September, but now I may not be able to because they said I used all three of my attempts. Anyone else been in this situation? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Application Not Verified = Miss School Deadline?
Does submitting prior to the school deadline mean that's when AAMC needs to have your application verified before that deadline and sent by that deadline? Example: School's deadline: November 1 Application submitted October through AAMCAS Application is not verified until mid-Nov Does this application meet Nov 1 deadline? Hi ya’ll! I’m currently averaging 87% on UWorld with about 320 questions left to do. AAMC sample 96%. My goal score is 520, and I’m a little more than a month away from my test day. Am I in good shape to get a 520? I’m also open to any other advice/tips! Thanks (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Submitting a committee letter and an individual letter to schools who have a limit of 3 rec letters?
So I submitted a committee letter and letter packet (combined together) and an individual letter to schools who only ask for 3-4 letters max. My committee letter/letter packet has 5 letters in it. And I included an individual letter highlighting other qualities of myself. Have I exceeded the rec letter requirement? Does this look very bad? Can I call AAMC to cancel the individual letter to those schools? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
