Pain, Nausea, and Hospital Admission Following Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE): A Comparison of Two Protocols
Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) cases performed from 2013 to 2019 were reviewed. 72 patients were treated with a standard protocol consisting of sedation, ketorolac, ondansetron, and overnight parenteral analgesics and antiemetics. 96 were treated with a new protocol, which added transdermal scopolamine, lorazepam, and IV acetaminophen. Outpatient UFE (OP-UFE) was successful with 81.4% and 2.7% of patients treated with the new and old protocols, respectively (p (Source: Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology : JVIR)

Pain, Nausea, and Hospital Admission after Uterine Fibroid Embolization: A Comparison of 2 Protocols
Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) procedures performed from 2013 to 2019 were reviewed. Seventy-two patients were treated with a standard protocol consisting of sedation, ketorolac, ondansetron, and overnight parenteral analgesics and antiemetics. Ninety-six patients were treated with a new protocol, which added transdermal scopolamine, lorazepam, and intravenous acetaminophen. Outpatient uterine fibroid embolization (OP-UFE) not requiring hospitalization was successful in 81.4% and 2.7% of patients treated with the new and old protocols, respectively (odds ratio [OR], 141.4; P (Source: Journal of Vascular and Interventio...

Inhibition of Spinal 5-HT3 Receptor and Spinal Dorsal Horn Neuronal Excitability Alleviates Hyperalgesia in a Rat Model of Parkinson ’s Disease
In conclusion, the present study suggests that inhibition of spinal 5-HT3 receptor and SDH neuronal excitability alleviates hyperalgesia in PD rats. Our study provides a novel mechanism or therap eutic strategy for pain in patients with PD. (Source: Molecular Neurobiology)

Aromatherapy with Isopropyl Alcohol versus Intravenous Ondansetron in Management of Mild Brain Trauma Nausea and Vomiting; a Randomized Clinical Trial
CONCLUSION: Aromatherapy using isopropyl alcohol significantly reduced nausea of patients with mild isolate head trauma after 30 minutes. Regarding vomiting, no favorable result was observed in this study. However, the frequency of vomiting was reduced in both control and intervention groups.PMID:36426172 | PMC:PMC9676696 | DOI:10.22037/aaem.v10i1.1792 (Source: Accident and Emergency Nursing)

The Possible Protective Effects of Ondansetron and Tropisetron on Optic Nerve Crush Injury in Rats
Conclusion Our findings indicate that cyclosporine, ondansetron, and tropisetron protect against ONC injury in rats, possibly via the suppression of apoptosis and modulation of calcineurin activity directly and via 5-HT3 receptors. Moreover, immunoblotting showed that tropisetron was more effective as opposed to ondansetron. Further studies are needed to evaluate the precise mechanism behind cyclosporine, ondansetron, and tropisetron activities. Effect of balanced opioid-free anaesthesia on postoperative nausea and vomiting after video-assisted thoracoscopic lung resection: protocol for a randomised controlled trial
This study aims to investigate the effects of balanced OFA on PONV and pain outcomes in patients undergoing video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). Methods and analysis This randomised controlled trial will be conducted at the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University in Suzhou, China. A total of 120 adults scheduled for VATS lung resection will be randomly assigned with a 1:1 ratio to either an OFA group or a control group, stratified by sex (n=60 in each group). Patients will receive balanced anaesthesia with esketamine, dexmedetomidine and sevoflurane (the OFA group), or sufentanil and sevoflurane (the contr...

Reduced sodium absorption in the colon under serotonin is a potential factor aggravating secretory diarrhea
CONCLUSIONS: Serotonin reduces both stationary and stimulated sodium ion absorption, thus playing an important role in the pathophysiology of secretory diarrhea. The described phenomenon depends on serotonin's action on 5-HT4 receptors.PMID:36374545 | DOI:10.17219/acem/155111 (Source: Adv Data)

Efficacy and Safety of Olanzapine in Children Receiving Highly Emetogenic Chemotherapy: A Randomized, Double-blind Placebo-controlled Phase 3 Trial
In this study, patients aged 3 to 18 years were randomly assigned to either the olanzapine group or the placebo group. All patients received intravenous ondansetron and dexamethasone 30 minutes before highly emetogenic chemotherapy, followed by oral ondansetron for 48 hours. Participants in the olanzapine group received olanzapine once daily on days 1 and 2, while those in the control group received a placebo in the same dosage and schedule. The primary objective was: (a) to compare the complete control rates of vomiting in the delayed phase and (b) to compare the complete control rates of vomiting in acute and overall pha...
