Renal Yolk Sac Tumor Clinically Misdiagnosed as Nephroblastoma: A Case Report
Conclusion: Imaging examination of renal yolk sac tumor can easily be misdiagnosed as Wilms tumor. SIOP treatment plan for Wilms tumor requires preoperative chemotherapy, which is different from the treatment regimen for yolk sac tumor. Preoperative alpha-fetoprotein could have been helpful in avoiding this clinical misdiagnosis.PMID:36645844 | DOI:10.1080/15513815.2023.2166800 (Source: Fetal and Pediatric Pathology)

Ovarian yolk sac tumor in a  premenarchal girl
We describe the case of an ovarian yolk sac tumor in a 12-year-old premenarchal girl suffering from Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and chronic spontaneous urticaria, which presented as a rapidly growing solid cystic formation in the hypogastrium with an extreme increase in alpha fetoprotein (52,778 mg/ml). After ultrasound and MRI imaging, fertility-sparing staging surgery was performed, and the diagnosis of an ovarian yolk sac tumor with positive malignant cells in ascites was confirmed. The specificity of this case is the tumor classification into stag e IC3 according to the FIGO and stage III according to the Childrenâ€...

Mature and immature ovarian teratomas share methylation profiles of imprinted genes: a MS-MLPA analysis
AbstractImmature teratomas are a subset of ovarian teratomas, and the pathogenic relationship between mature and immature ovarian teratomas is unclear. Mature ovarian teratomas are parthenogenetic tumors that arise from a single oocyte/ovum, whereas the origin of immature ovarian teratomas has not been extensively investigated. Since parthenogenetic tumors contain only maternal genomes, genome imprinting in these tumors usually follows a maternal pattern. DNA methylation is among the most important mechanisms of genome imprinting. Therefore, we analyzed the methylation profile of imprinted genes by performing methylation-s...

Buccal mucosa vaginoplasty through an anterior sagittal transrectal approach (astra) for management of yolk sac tumor in a 3-year old girl
Vaginal yolk sac tumours (vYST) are rare pediatric malignant tumours and the most common form of vaginal germ-cell tumours in children. They are almost exclusively found in females under 3 years of age. Treatment involves local excision either with or without chemotherapy. Herein, we describe a case of a 3 year old girl with vaginal Yolk sac tumor, who underwent buccal mucosa vaginoplasty through an anterior sagittal transrectal approach (ASTRA), as an effective oncological procedure, with preservation of reproductive function. Non-choriocarcinomatous trophoblastic tumors of testis in postchemotherapy retroperitoneal lymph node dissections
In conclusion, because NCTTs are rare and newly described tumor types, their diagnosis is difficult and most of them are missed in post-chemotherapy RPLNDs. The majority of patients exhibit normal or slightl y elevated β-HCG levels. N-CTTs are usually accompanied by other components of TGCT, the most common being teratoma. Despite the high survival rate of the patients, our study points to the unpredictable evolution of NCTT cases, which may concur with a high-stage or progressive disease. (Source: Virchows Archiv)

Diagnostically misleading aberrant terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase expression in germ cell tumors
Pol J Pathol. 2022;73(2):159-165. doi: 10.5114/pjp.2022.120098.ABSTRACTTerminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) is a unique type of DNA polymerase predominantly expressed in precursor lymphoid cells and acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It participates in the junctional diversity of T-cell receptors and immunoglobulins. Recently, aberrant TdT expression was found in seminomas. Here, we evaluated the expression of TdT in our cohort of germ cell tumors (GCTs) with two anti-TdT antibody clones. We included 173 cases of testicular GCTs, 5 ovarian dysgerminomas, and one gonadoblastoma in the study. Tissue microarrays containing ...
