Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 912: Pathogenesis of Warthin’s Tumor: Neoplastic or Non-Neoplastic? Cancers doi: 10.3390/cancers16050912 Authors: Ryogo Aoki Takuji Tanaka Warthin’s tumor is the second most frequent neoplasm next to pleomorphic adenoma in the salivary gland, mostly in the parotid gland. The epithelial cells constituting a tumor are characterized by the presence of mitochondria that undergo structural and functional changes, resulting in the development of oncocytes. In addition to containing epithelial cells, Warthin’s tumors contain abundant lymphocytes with lymph fo...

Expression of FOXI1 and POU2F3 varies among different salivary gland neoplasms and is higher in Warthin tumor
ConclusionThe expression patterns of the characteristic transcription factors found in ionocytes and tuft cells vary among salivary gland tumor types and are higher in WT, which might be relevant for understanding and diagnosing salivary gland neoplasms. (Source: Hormones and Cancer)

Warthin-like variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma with lymph node metastases: a  case report and review of the literature
ConclusionWLV-PTC resembles salivary gland tumors with similar histological features. This variant is not well known, but often associated with a stroma lymphocytic infiltration and a low risk of lymph node metastases. It is regarded that this rare subtype has similar long-term survival rates as classic papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). (Source: Journal of Medical Case Reports)

Radiomic nomogram for discriminating parotid pleomorphic adenoma from parotid adenolymphoma based on grayscale ultrasonography
ConclusionA nomogram based on grayscale ultrasonic radiomics and clinical features served as a non-invasive tool capable of differentiating PA and AL. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

The characteristics of Polish patients with salivary gland tumors: a ten-year single-center experience
ConclusionBenign tumors, such as Warthin's tumors and polymorphous adenoma, were predominantly found in the parotid glands of patients aged 39 –72 years. On the other hand, inflammatory diseases were primarily localized within the submandibular glands of males aged 40–68 years. Additionally, the presence of a malignant tumor was associated with longer hospitalization periods related to surgery and a higher risk of severe complications.Clinical relevanceThis study on Polish patients with salivary gland tumors provides valuable clinical insights that can aid in diagnosis, treatment planning, patient counseling, and furth...

Differentiation of parotid pleomorphic adenoma from Warthin tumor using signal intensity ratios on fat-suppressed T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging
To investigate the value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) signal intensity ratios (SIRs) based on fat-suppressed T2-weighted imaging (FS-T2WI), together with demographic features, MRI anatomical characteristics, and SIRs of histopathological patterns of the tumors, in the differentiation of parotid pleomorphic adenoma (PA) from Warthin tumor (WT). Heterogeneity in PD-L1 expression in MAML2-rearranged mucoepidermoid carcinoma
CONCLUSION: The histomorphologic features of MEC may predict clinicopathologic behavior, and subtyping MEC may pose a significant therapeutic value, particularly for intraosseous MECs and clear-cell MECs. PD-L1 expression is a good predictor of survival outcomes in MECs.PMID:38091884 | DOI:10.1016/j.prp.2023.155005 (Source: Pathology, Research and Practice)

Case Report: Primary Intranodal Warthin-Like Variant of Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma
This report describes a rare case of primary intranodal Warthin-like mucoepidermoid carcinoma (WL-MEC) presenting as a left level II lymph node mass in a 48-year-old man. WL-MEC is a recently defined variant of MEC which bears close histological resemblance to Warthin tumour. Whilst MEC have readily identifiable key histological features which render diagnosis relatively straightforward, WL-MEC is a challenging diagnosis due to overlapping histological features and only limited case reports in the literature. Epidemiological Profile of Salivary Gland Tumors in Southern Iranian Population: A Retrospective Study of 405 Cases
CONCLUSION: In summary, the findings of the current study were mainly consistent with the previous reports from Iran and the rest of the world. Benign tumors were the most prevalent type of SGTs, and the parotid gland was the most common site. While the majority of cases that developed from the major salivary glands were benign, all the minor SGTs were malignant. Older patients were more likely to develop malignant tumors compared to younger ones. This study provides insights into the prevalence, age-related incidence, gender distribution, and geographic variation of salivary gland tumors. This can be instrumental to devel...
