Amide proton transfer-weighted magnetic resonance imaging for the differentiation of parotid gland tumors
ConclusionMost APTw images for parotid tumors had acceptable image quality for APTw value evaluation. Both APTmax and APTmean can be used to differentiate MTs from BTs and to differentiate MTs from subtype parotid gland tumors. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

TRPS1 immunohistochemical expression in salivary gland tumors: A pilot study
CONCLUSIONS: Overall, TRPS1 is strongly expressed in PA as well as malignant and metastatic SGT. In addition, TRPS1 is positive in stromal cells of BCA but negative or low positive in ductal and basal cells.PMID:37565763 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqad100 (Source: American Journal of Clinical Pathology)

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 3917: Novel Discovery of the Somatostatin Receptor (SSTR2) in Pleomorphic Adenomas via Immunohistochemical Analysis of Tumors of the Salivary Glands
Ulrich Strassen Reliable preoperative diagnosis between salivary gland tumor entities is difficult. In this monocentric retrospective study, we examined the somatostatin receptor 2 (SSTR2) status of salivary gland tumors after salivary gland tumor resection via immunohistochemistry (IHC), and stains were compared in analogy to the HER2 mamma scale. A total of 42.3% of all pleomorphic adenoma (PA) tumors (42 of 99, 95% confidence interval 32.5–52.8%) demonstrated ≥20% of cells displaying the SSTR2 as compared to just 1% of all other tumors (1/160, 95% CI 0.02–3.4%). The other tu...

Warthin-like papillary thyroid carcinoma: a case report and comprehensive review of the literature
ConclusionWLPTC shares similar clinical and radiological presentations as classic PTC. The hallmark histological features of WLPTC are papillae lined with oncocytic tumor cells with papillary nuclear changes and lymphoid stroma. WLPTC is almost constantly associated with CLT. The management of WLPTC aligns with that of classic PTC with comparable stage and risk category, often resulting in favorable outcomes. (Source: Frontiers in Endocrinology)

Paediatric Parotid Abscess: A Rare Presentation
We present a case of parotid abscess in a 9-year-old female child which required surgical drainage. In literature, parotid gland abscess arising from a preceeding dental infection in paediatric age group is an uncommon occurence and limited number of cases have been documented. The first line of imaging is ultrasonographic examination of the parotid gland which adds on to the clinical examination. In combination with color doppler, sonography is of immense as sistance for diagnosis and evaluation of therapeutic efficacy and also helps guide aspiration or incision and drainage. A nomogram incorporating clinical, conventional ultrasound and shear wave elastography findings for distinguishing pleomorphic adenoma from Warthin's tumor of the major salivary glands
CONCLUSIONS: The nomogram had good performance in distinguishing major salivary PA from WT and held potential for optimizing the clinical decision-making process.PMID:37395620 | DOI:10.1259/dmfr.20230051 (Source: Dentomaxillofacial Radiology)
