The 2023 Dengue Outbreak in Bangladesh: Exploring the Epidemiology in Hospitalized Patients
We report that a substantial number of patients developed severe dengue during the epidemic in 2023, and provide detailed clinical-epidemiological profiles of the patients, offering valuable insight into management of dengue cases.PMID:38593789 | DOI:10.4269/ajtmh.23-0806 (Source: Am J Trop Med Hyg)

Efficacy of Brolucizumab in Polyp Regression of Treatment-Na ïve Polypoidal Choroidal Vasculopathy and Its Effect on One-Year Treatment Outcome
CONCLUSION: Intravitreal brolucizumab injection effectively improved visual and anatomical outcomes and achieved significant polyp regression in treatment-naïve PCV patients. Complete polyp regression and the reduction rate of vascular lesion size and polyp size after loading injection significantly influence the treatment outcome of PCV patients. However, careful monitoring and preoperative warning is warranted due to occurrence of brolucizumab-related IOI.PMID:38584441 | DOI:10.3341/kjo.2023.0145 (Source: Korean Journal of Ophthalmology : KJO)

Spontaneous brain activity in the hippocampal regions could characterize cognitive impairment in patients with Parkinson's disease
CONCLUSION: The parahippocampal gyrus was the potential brain region for recognizing cognitive impairment in PD, specifically for identifying MCI. Thus, the fALFF of parahippocampal gyrus is expected to contribute to future study as a multimodal fingerprint for early warning.PMID:38584347 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14706 (Source: CNS Neuroscience and Therapeutics)

A European perspective on a turning point for embryo status and in  vitro fertilization in the United States
Amidst the march toward greater equality and freedom for women ’s rights, recent history reminds us of the fragile nature of these gains. The seismic shock of the 2022 overturn of Roe vs. Wade in the United States led to constitutionalizing of the freedom to undergo abortion in France in early March 2024 (1). These events underscored the prescience of philoso pher, novelist, and iconic figure in French feminism Simone de Beauvoir’s warning: “Never forget that it will only take a political, economic, or religious crisis for women’s rights to be put into question. The checkmark association between gamma glutamyl-transpeptidase and body mass index in a large Chinese population
CONCLUSIONS: Our investigation demonstrated that the GGT level in obese Chinese people is significantly higher than that in non-obese people living in Wuhu City. BMI level can be considered as an early warning index for diseases related to liver function injury in the clinic, although the influence of gender difference should be specifically considered.PMID:38583192 (Source: Neuroendocrinology Letters)
