Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 2710: Enhanced Lightweight YOLOX for Small Object Wildfire Detection in UAV Imagery
Weijun Pan Target detection technology based on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-derived aerial imagery has been widely applied in the field of forest fire patrol and rescue. However, due to the specificity of UAV platforms, there are still significant issues to be resolved such as severe omission, low detection accuracy, and poor early warning effectiveness. In light of these issues, this paper proposes an improved YOLOX network for the rapid detection of forest fires in images captured by UAVs. Firstly, to enhance the network’s feature-extraction capability in complex fire environments, a multi-level-feat...

Evaluation of ChatGPT and Gemini large language models for pharmacometrics with NONMEM
AbstractTo assess ChatGPT 4.0 (ChatGPT) and Gemini Ultra 1.0 (Gemini) large language models on NONMEM coding tasks relevant to pharmacometrics and clinical pharmacology. ChatGPT and Gemini were assessed on tasks mimicking real-world applications of NONMEM. The tasks ranged from providing a curriculum for learning NONMEM, an overview of NONMEM code structure to generating code. Prompts in lay language to elicit NONMEM code for a linear pharmacokinetic (PK) model with oral administration and a more complex model with two parallel first-order absorption mechanisms were investigated. Reproducibility and the impact of “temper...

Estimating the incidence of COVID-19, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus infection in three regions of Queensland, Australia, winter 2022: findings from a novel longitudinal testing-based sentinel surveillance programme
Conclusion This testing-based surveillance programme could estimate disease trends and be a useful tool in settings where testing is less common or accessible. Difficulties with recruitment meant the study was underpowered. The frontline sentinel nature of workplaces meant participants were not representative of the general population but were high-risk groups providing early warning of disease. (Source: BMJ Open)

The “in between”.
Families, Systems, & Health, Vol 42(1), Mar 2024, 135-136; doi:10.1037/fsh0000819When the authors were 12 and 14 years old, their worlds shifted suddenly without warning or consent, and bifurcated our lives into “a before” and “an after.” They were both diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and found themselves in an “in between” space—young but not healthy, sick but not dying, treatments but not cures, intestines swollen and bleeding but appearing fine on the outside, in every sense the definition: an invisible illness. Their own chronic illness experiences helped to shape our pursuit of careers in...

Early Warning Systems for Critical Illness Outside the Intensive Care Unit
Early warning systems (EWSs) are designed and deployed to create a rapid assessment and response for patients with clinical deterioration outside the intensive care unit (ICU). These models incorporate patient-level data such as vital signs and laboratory values to detect or prevent adverse clinical events, such as vital signs and laboratories to allow detection and prevention of adverse clinical events such as cardiac arrest, intensive care transfer, or sepsis. The applicability, development, clinical utility, and general perception of EWS in clinical practice vary widely. Here, we review the field as it has grown from ea...
