A Principal Component Regression-Based Electrophysiological Study of Patients with Severe Infections
CONCLUSION: Electrophysiological spectroscopy can serve as an early warning for the development of neuromuscular disease in EICU patients. Abnormal electrophysiological diagnosis prior to actual neuromuscular abnormalities and its subsequent return to normal can help identify high-risk patients and implement early interventions.PMID:38581312 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

Clearer skies may be accelerating global warming
When 2023 turned out to be the hottest year in history , it underscored the warnings of some prominent climate scientists, including James Hansen, that the pace of global warming was accelerating and had entered a dangerous new phase. A new study, published Wednesday in Communications Earth & Environment , suggests one reason for such an acceleration: Earth’s skies are getting clearer and letting in more sunshine. The study was prompted by a set of NASA instruments in space that since 2001 have tracked the delicate balance of energy entering and leaving the planet. Over the past de...

Sociodemographic differences in nutrition labels effect on Chilean and Mexican youth
CONCLUSIONS: Results suggest that nutrition label awareness, use, understanding, and impact differ across demographics, favoring higher income and nutrition knowledge. Despite this, WLs are likely to have a positive impact on nutrition-related knowledge and behaviors among Mexican and Chilean youth, independently of their socio-demographic groups.PMID:38576841 | PMC:PMC10993807 | DOI:10.26633/RPSP.2024.33 (Source: Pan American Journal of Public Health)

Reduced Tolerance for Risky Play in Primary Caregivers of Children With Hearing Loss
CONCLUSIONS: The study found that caregivers of children with HL have less tolerance for risky play. Additionally, caregivers of children with better auditory skills were more tolerant of risky play. Therefore, it is suggested that caregivers of children using appropriate hearing devices should be informed that they do not need to be overly restrictive during play, and these children should be encouraged to engage in risky play.PMID:38573842 | DOI:10.1044/2024_AJA-23-00238 (Source: American Journal of Audiology)

Regulatory T cells as crucial trigger and potential target for hyperprogressive disease subsequent to PD-1/PD-L1 blockade for cancer treatment
Int Immunopharmacol. 2024 Apr 3;132:111934. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2024.111934. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPD-1/PD-L1 blockade therapy has brought great success to cancer treatment. Nevertheless, limited beneficiary populations and even hyperprogressive disease (HPD) greatly constrain the application of PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors in clinical treatment. HPD is a special pattern of disease progression with rapid tumor growth and even serious consequences of patient death, which requires urgent attention. Among the many predisposing causes of HPD, regulatory T cells (Tregs) are suspected because they are amplified in cases of HP...
